The newest firmware removes the ability to record FM radio. What the hell?

I don't have one, nor do I intend to buy one, but that is retarded.

Sometimes I think we should just switch back audio tape.

Yeah, that's BS.  I'm sure the argument from the RIAA (who surely pressured Creative into doing this) is that "It's a digital recording, bit for bit" or some crap like that.  But it was received over fucking FM!  It is nothing like the original source material.

Not really bit for bit, since there's a good chance that the radio played the song in its entirety, or the host will start talking again or something.

Uh, I think you missed Scott's point.  It's not even close to "bit for bit" even if played in its entirety over silky silence.  You're taking a frequency-limited analog signal and digitizing it.  The quality will be little or no better than a good analog recording.
