If you're eating potatoes and Carolina Pride breakfast sausage for dinner. It's so cheap that it hurts. Literally.
-
I take it Carolina Pride becomes somewhat less... proud... in a hurry?
-
Let's just say that the tears coming down my face weren't happy tears.
Although in my defense I did put butter and cheese on the potatoes. So they were edible.

Nah it's not a sure thing until you're eating Ramen 5 of 7 days.
-
Yeah but that's scientifically proven to kill you.
-
If you open your wallet and a moth flies out, you know you're in trouble.
-
Anybody ever lived on popcorn, bread, and water for two weeks?
Student life = temporary poverty.

I've just been eating Beans and rice. Rajma for all you familiar with Indian foods. $5 and you can eat a healthy dinner for more than a week. It's sweet.

If you substitute popcorn for peanut butter and bread for hot dog buns, then yes.

I used to have to do that in college, sometimes for more than a week straight. Eating bread with it was the only thing that made it filling and bearable to eat that long.
-
Actually I always thought Ramen was pretty good. Just not all the time.

Hehe just as bad :D
I remember that was also when I discovered how cheap pasta can be! It's all starch so it staves hunger pretty well and barely scratches a mark in your wallet. When you're on a non-daily food basis you can use the carbs too! :P

Yeah, sometimes I would do that, grab a cheap can of spaghetti sauce for around $1 and some cheap noodles and have enough for a couple of meals.
-
I've never been a huge fan of spaghetti sauce, so I used to cook it and add a little butter and steak seasoning. I actually still do this from time to time even though I can now afford real food.

haha... Once as a student, I actually survived two days on fortune cookies. I was awaiting my paycheck, and one of my friends gave me a HUGE bag of fortune cookies that he was supposed to give away in ones, as a part of some work related promotion.

Haha remember the time were stuck in your basement due to snow and we survived on pizza and the BBQ supplies from the freezer? Hehe we played The Sims for 3 days straight!
-
haha it was great food though. :)

I don't understand all the people who want to eat cheap and just do KD. If you just cook a little you can eat much healthier and tastier meals for cheaper.

Absolutely. The only exception is if you get "Organic" labeled fruits and vegetables.
KD was always more expensive than some of the more generic market brands and a lot more expensive than actually buying some pasta (macaroni if you so choose) and some real cheese.
Ever get some of those "Hungry Man" dinners? I tried one once, it was so-so. Like airline food. Although I always find it unsettling when I read the label that says "Now with real beef!" Like what the heck was it before?!
-
i always found making my own food was the best way to go budget wise. No matter where i was, i'd always look for the local vegetable/fruit market. Always liked a home cooked meal more than fastfood.
oatmeal's always a good breakfast. just oats, water, fruit.. or oats and water. Of course, it's better with milk and sugar but..

Kraft Dinner! The defilement of truly cheesy dinners.
