Title: Richard Wright, dead at 65.
Post by: Cobra951 on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 04:05:59 PM
Story. (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/16/arts/music/16wright.html?ex=1237348800&en=a9ddf282630f97de&ei=5087&excamp=GGGNrickwright&WT.srch=1&WT.mc_ev=click&WT.mc_id=GN-S-E-GG-NA-S-rick_wright)  That's 2 of Pink Floyd's core now.  RIP.  "The Great Gig in the Sky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAydj4OJnwQ)" is his.  How fitting.

I was in the midst of the blackout on the 15th, which is why this is news to me.

I like Pink Floyd, but I obviously know little about them.  I have never heard of him.

Yeah, I'm sort of aware of them and like them, but I couldn't tell you squat about any of them.  RIP, I guess.  Good music from what I know.

That's a shame.

All you need to know about Pink Floyd:

-They have like a million songs.
-All of these songs are good
-Maybe .20 percent of these songs are the kind of songs you can listen to when you're not fucked up or really, really into Pink Floyd.

Oh, and in totally unrelated news, it looks like Led Zep is having a reunion tour with or without Robert Plant.

I have a love/hate relationship with classic rock.  I'm better versed in it (or at least used to be) than a person of my age probably should be, and because of that I've kind of distanced myself from it lately.  Now I'm basically straight heavy metal and jazz.  I don't listen to anything else, really.

Classic rock is such a generic term though, I'd be hesitant to put Pink Floyd in it with dozens of other bands that all sound the same.

It's an overall genre they happen to fall into.  Zep doesn't sound like everyone else either, but what else are you going to call it without sounding like a pretentious dick?
