Title: Thinking of buying something from the PSN video store?
Post by: idolminds on Monday, September 22, 2008, 01:48:00 PM
Yeah...don't. (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080921-playstation-3-video-drm-two-strikes-and-youre-out.html)

You get one download. If you need to delete the thing to make room for game demos or other movies, you have to call Sony and they will let you download it once more. Then that's it. Can you even back the files up to anything?

And you wonder why I prefer buying products on DISC, most of the time...

Yeah, it may be 'old school' of me, but I'll always buy physical media when given a choice.

Unless there is no DRM in the digital download like GOG does and I can back-up the file on disc...

Man, that's screwed up.

Weren't we all having the same discussion regarding Steam and "what if" they did things this way?

I'm with the old-fashioned crowd on physical media.

Absolutely.  If I buy something, it's going to be in a box on a disc.  If it isn't, you can generally forget it, with very few exceptions.  PSN games would be that exception, of which I own a couple.

Movie rentals work very well on the 360, and I imagine the PS3 does just as well.  Buying movies this way, though, can't possibly work if the content is locked to a single system.  And then you can't even re-download it should the need arise?  Ridiculous.
