Title: The real Rocketeer
Post by: Cobra951 on Friday, September 26, 2008, 12:04:08 PM
This guy strapped a jet wing to his back (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/09/26/rocket.man.english.channel.ap/index.html?iref=mpstoryview#cnnSTCVideo) and flew it across the English Channel.  That's all kinds of awesome, not to mention ballsy.

Sorry about the squashed CNN video.  I don't know WTF is wrong with whoever is in charge of that.  I've written to them about the obvious ability to make the fucking video window any aspect that's needed.  Of course, I got no reply.  My solution is to download the FLV, then force it to 4:3 with VLC.  But you are most likely less anal than me about aspect ratios.

Edit:  More entertaining video (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/video/Jetman-Yves-Rossy-channel-crossing-attempt/Video/200808315084421?lpos=video_Article_Related_Content_Region_5&lid=VIDEO_15084421_Jetman_Yves_Rossy_channel_crossing_attempt)

First (public?) flight. (http://www.nbc11.com/video/10574136/index.html)

That is awesome.  I wonder how fast it goes, none of the videos mentioned that.

200 kph level flight, up to 300 kph diving.

Edit:  The live National Geographic coverage I missed today is being rebroadcast tomorrow at 4 PM on the National Geographic channel, for those who get it and hopefully have some way to record it.  I already set a timer.  It repeats at 5 PM on October 2nd.

Yeah, I saw this on the news the other day. Awesome stuff, it definitely takes some balls. They said the mileage and the estimated time on the report and I did some mental math which took it to around 120 mph, so Cobra seems on point.

I'm glad he made it. I would have serious reservations with strapping rockets on my ass for half an hour.
