Title: Shameless self-advertising
Post by: scottws on Sunday, September 28, 2008, 07:32:54 AM: I attempted to install a program that obviously wasn't Vista-compatible. It was taking awhile so I just kinda left it. After awhile I went back to look for the dialog box, looking for that "Finished!" message but I couldn't even find the box. So I check in C:\Program Files (x86) and find the program folder there. I try to run it but it says "Unknown Windows version" and then exits. I soon discover it's not going to be useful to me, so I go to uninstall it, and there's no uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs. I also can't find an uninstaller in the program folder.

So I just delete the folder and begin looking for a Vista-compatible registry cleaner. I come across this CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner everywhere in a Google search. So I search "cleanmypc registry cleaner review" and here is the first result:

Now you can't tell me that those comments aren't from people that are falsely promoting that program. They are just too... fake.

I have nothing to add except that if Windows 7 doesn't finally include a real fucking package manager, some bitches in Redmond iz gonna get shanked.

But the big guy does it too. MS hires loads of employees to express fanboyism for their products across the forums. Nvidia does the same thing, in fact one guy "rollo" was eventually found out on the Anandtech forums. Initially, he appeared to be the biggest Nvidia fanboy ever, until he was found out. I wish I was kidding about this, but this sorta thing is regular.

Funny thing is that on Amazon, for most new products, inevitably the first user review is almost always long, well written, very informative and completely positive.

Post by: Ghandi on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 05:59:25 PM: Yeah, I suspected as much. I generally look for negative reviews, mostly because I suspect they are more legit - although you have to wonder how much the opposite goes on - competitors posting negative comments.
