Been playing for a while on the Gamecube.

I don't think it would be fair to call it a first person shooter. It feels more like an adventure game in the first person... well at least so far. It feels more about exploration and discovery. It also feels pretty damn perfect. I mean it does the little things so right, that it makes the whole experience fantastic.

I love it.

Yes, oh yes!  MP is awesome.  Would you believe I also have the sequel, and I have yet to break open the shrinkwrap?  Never got a chance to play before, and now my GC isn't even out of its box.

The sequel is just as good, if not better.  Thematically it's much darker and such, but in a cool way.  I really enjoyed the first, and I'm steadily punching my way through the second.  And no, they don't feel like FPS games at all.  They feel like Metroid.  I'll never understand how they did it, but they did.

Yea I broke MP2 out of shrink just to enjoy the multiplayer aspect with my cousins. That was a real blast. But back to MP1, it is one of those projects where you can't really pin point one single thing that makes the whole experience so good. The fact is that the whole game just feels right.

The sense of lonliness in the game helps.  It's quiet, with the occasionaly old-school Metroid music beeping.  The only true interaction is with ancient inscriptions from a long-dead race. You can sometimes travel several rooms without encountering anything living.

There is almost a sense of dread.

I love the level design. They didnt wimp out and put bump maps on everything and turn it into a shine-fest. Everything is so organic and they just went and modeled everything.

Damn right it's a good game.  MP2 was great as well.
