Title: Audiosurf THREAD
Post by: MysterD on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 08:06:08 PM
So, I just tried the Audiosurf DEMO. Yeah, it's cool. I think I'm gonna bite for $4.99 on Steam, for the Full version.

Anyways, I tried a handful of songs -- and it's cool the kind of track it creates dynamically, based on what song you pick; with the track speed, bumps in the ride, and what have you.

GNR's  "Chinese Democracy" (song) was a roller coaster ride, given how it changes it speeds now and again.

Rick Ross' song "Boss" (from Port of Miami album) was quite the nice-paced ride in speed, but the ride itself was quite bumpy and had lots of ups and down, given the song's deep bass that hits from time to time.

Nas's "Hip Hop Is Dead" (song) was all over the place -- chorus was fast, his first two verses were a nice ride, but the last verse gets fast when it turns into the "Apache" beat.

Pretty cool.

What are some of the songs y'all tried and actually liked to cruise to with this game?

That actually sounds kinda cool. Can you use custom songs in the demo too, or is that only for the full version? I'm downloading the demo right now, and if I like it I'll grab it before the sale is over.

It's a neat idea, but it's too much of a gimmick and isn't even a quarter as cool as people make it out to be.  The whole "dynamic track" thing is so lame it's almost a lie.  I've railed on it in other threads, so I won't give my diatribe here.  It's surely worth five bucks, anyway, and it's cool to mess with for a half hour or so.  I do enjoy the fun sense of speed and stuff as you fly around on the tracks, though I think it really just makes me wish I was playing Wipeout instead.

You can use customs in demo, yes.
You only get I think it was FIVE SONGS.
Then, the demo's basically over.
To keep playing, you gotta' buy the full version.

Im surprised they didn't try and make a racing mode with it. Generate a loop track and then just race on it.

Meh, I tried it and I didn't like it much. If I didn't try stuff like Haste the Day and Killswitch Engage it might have worked better, but that's what I like, and it didn't seem all that accurate or varying. I guess the road bumps with the beat, so I was getting these rapid little bumps like you see on a motocross track.

That would be cool.
