What is the deal with 4chan? I hear about it all the time all of a sudden. For instance, I just followed a story on Digg.com about some mac website's live feed of Macworld being hacked and it was a 4chan prank...like the rickroll thing, and those cats that don't speak english well. The comments hacked in were pretty lame, although they started out great with the subtle "Steve Jobs just died!" and then "retracted, I don't know how that got in the feed", followed up by "holy shit, he really did just die!"
In related news (somewhat), Apple announced a new macbook blah blah blah. The thing has a non-removable, sealed battery. People who love macs seem to think it's great because it makes the battery last longer while being smaller, but everyone else thinks it's stupid because .... well, it's a non-removable sealed battery in a laptop. Who's correct.

4chan is basically hell in internet form.

People who love macs seem to think it's great because it's from Apple.
Fixed that up for ya.

I visited the site once before I knew what I was getting myself into. I still have nightmares.
-
you wouldn't like it.

I read about it in Wired. Is it that Japanese site where people post random videos and everyone can type in comments that everyone sees over the top of the video? I thought the concept sounded completely absurd but the article made it seem like it was absolutely huge there.
Of course Wired also makes it seem like Second Life is huge and I have never met even a single person that's heard of it, much less played it. And I'm in IT.
-
4chan is definitely a breed of its own. I lolz every time I visit though
-
Yea I've heard of second life even in TV show and stuff like it's some huge thing, but I've only ever known one person who had actually played it, even when I was going to college with a bunch of other gaming nerds.

To clarify, the site that got hacked is macrumorslive.com (part of macrumors.com, name says it all). Each time there's an Apple keynote, they post live updates to the site for those who are too eager to know the latest and don't want to wait for the Apple stream to appear later in the day.
-
Do a lot of other sites do this? Because it seems like the people from 4 chan missed out on a golden opportunity to really fuck with people.
-
Yeah it's not a very creative, and it's even a little macabre given that Jobs was reported to be ill this past week (I think).
-
Yeah, there's a couple of other ones, like ArsTechnica.
-
I've heard it mentioned by W&C on these forums.
