Title: Gears of War PC has....expired?
Post by: idolminds on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 12:29:41 PM
WTF? (http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=583739&page=7)

The digital signature on some files have expired, causing an error and keeps you from playing. Changing the date of your PC fixes the problem. Epic is aware of the problem (http://forums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25981126&postcount=22) so hopefully an official fix comes out soon.

So is this caused by online bullshit or is it local to the PC files?  I'm not at all familiar with GFWL.  It's pathetic in any case.

Cliff Bleszinski does not care about PC people!

But does the rest of Epic care?
i.e. Mark Rein?

So, are they gonna patch the "stuttering issues" out of GoW PC since they gonna have to patch this thing?
Might as well, while they're at it.
And especially since they are tweaking the life out of UT3.

Epic explained: "The online cheat detection features in Gears of War for Windows are based on digital signatures. Well, we made an embarrassing mistake: we signed the executable with a certificate that expired in a way that broke the game.

We're working with Microsoft to re-sign the binaries properly, and hope to have this fixed very soon. We know how much this situation sucks, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

In the mean time a work-around for this is to set your computer's date back to a date before today."

Brilliant move, Epic. *sarcasm*

I'm glad I finished GoW PC sometime ago...

Patch released (http://gearsofwar.xbox.com/pc/qfe1.htm)

Doesn't look like there are any changes to the game other than letting you actually run it.

At least it'll run now, I guess....
