Someone get on it! (http://kottke.org/08/11/cool-new-dutch-coin)
-
They can put Obama's face on all of it and a hammer and sickle on the opposite side.
-
Are you putting together a Rapture Kit for when Jesus comes back, Que?
-
That doesn't even make sense.
-
The short of it is that I called you batshit crazy.
-
sigh..here we go again

*punches Keebler*
BAAAR FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!

Every challenge allong the way

Arm in arm we'll win the fight!
It's always been our dream!

Maybe you should try posting drunk less so you'll make more sense.
Maybe you should try reading newspapers so you'll get jokes.
-
How could an article about Jesus and the rapture in a newspaper possibly be worth reading? except to keep up with jokes.
-
Did this thread just turn into one of those anti-Chrsitian threads that the non religious don't believe exist? I thought you guys said only Christians are preachy (http://www.overwritten.net/forum/index.php?topic=4870.msg63797#msg63797).
-
an unfortunate fact for those of you that believe in organised religion, is that most people who don't think it's misguided at best and downright evil at worst. as the western world becomes more secular you're just going to have to deal with it.
and i don't think anyone said *only* christians were preachy.

I didn't intend that to be Christianity bashing though I see now it came across that way.
Rapture is the second coming, right? So having no idea what articles in particular Wind was talking about, I would assume the article to not at all be relevant to current events or any huge, pressing matter. except to keep up with the jokes referred to Wind's keeping up with the newspaper to get the jokes, not saying Christianity is a joke.

From money to religion: Giant leap or or short step?
-
No no. Que brought out his extreme anti-Obama stance in a lighthearted way (or so I thought) and W&C retorted with an off-color joke (or so I thought) about Christian zealotry, which is one reason to oppose non-conservatives vehemently.
Christ. (<--This word does not imply a religious message follows.) Is this like the Hitler thing now? Woops! Mentioned Hitler. Now I've done it.
-
I think we can safely replace your mention of Hitler with Charlie Chaplin and all will be well.
-
I just didn't get how hinting at Obama being a communist makes Que a religious zealot. Anti-Obama, sure, but I don't see how that relates to religion. It reminded me of my complaint in the other thread, as this is one example of someone seemingly randomly bringing up religion in a negative light, completely unprovoked. Had the post called Que a dirty Bush-loving conservative, it would have at least related to his post (and made for some good sequal puns).
Didn't mean to start something, though I knew it might. What I really meant was, "Hey! Look! It just happened! See, I'm not crazy!"
-
I think it's fair to say that both jokes (and I will cling to the joke notion) have no basis in reality. One is extreme left leaning, and the other extreme right. Point-counter-point, Dan Aykroyd style.
-
On my part, it was really just a reference to the way new money seems to go. Sometimes you see new money when there are regime changes, to reflect new ideologies, or sometimes it's just artsy crap that ends up having a political message. Yes, it was just a joke since scary said our money should look like that, and we've just gone through a regime change, so... yeah. I fail to see how that in any way expressed any religious view whatsoever. Granted, it was a little snarky, but I'm pretty sure snarky is about the best I can manage lately. My demeanor has been a little... dark.
As for politics, my dislike of Obama has everything to do with his political ideologies and nothing to do with religion in any way whatsoever. My dislike of Bush also had everything to do with politics and nothing to do with religion. In fact, shockingly, any beef I've ever had with any president in my lifetime has been over politics and not religion. I know, it's so crazy that I would have a problem with a politician's political view, given that he is a politician and has probably only offhandedly mentioned God a few times in order to squeeze a few extra votes out of the largely religious population of the country.
But where would we be if we didn't have W&C to brighten our lives with his endless parade of presupposition and hypercritical bullshit? I, for one, would feel cheated. Cheated. But seriously, at no point did I take any real offense. It's the internet.
-
Sorry I missed the fun, another forum I post on was having an excellent discussion making fun of Thomas Kinkade.
As for bringing up Jesus and the Rapture, it's because I've seen a whole lot of crap like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYA46VzQdAI&eurl=http://poetv.com/video.php?vid=53103).
-
Which has to do with sane religious people how, exactly?
In any case, I think we can all get behind making fun of Thomas Kinkade. And that would probably be a better use of our time.
-

Who mentioned sanity? (PS, as for the video, check the tags. Or this Rapture Forums thread (http://www.raptureforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21981).)
-
Again, I fail to see what that has to do with anything. I could go look up the website for some cult of frog-worshipers and post it here with vague connotations that you belong to it, and that would make about as much sense.
Though do forgive me if you do worship frogs. I mean no offense. The call of the amphibian is strong, I'm sure.
-
Again, I fail to see what that has to do with anything.
I actually made a list of all the things you have in common with the people on that forum, but posting it would be mean even by my standards. So let me ask you a different question:
The Bush Administration kidnapped people, held them without trial for months or years, and even flew them to third-world countries so they could be tortured; yet I never recall you criticizing them for even one of the many illegal things they were caught doing.
So in light of that, what has Obama done that is so bad that he warrants more hatred and fear than Bush did?
-
Oh fuck off.
-
One of these days I'm just going to ban you for being too stupid to live.
-
But I really am curious. Que, you obviously hate Obama more than Bush. Why?
-
When did I ever say that? I've hated every president since I've been old enough to realize what bastards they were. The only reason it may appear that I hate Obama more is because around here he has widespread support, and it makes me sick in disgust to think of how easily duped people are. Bush was universally hated, so it was occasionally more fun to push people's buttons about it. But I have absolutely no respect for either individual, and I think both of them are charlatans and liars. And, of course, most Bush haters think Obama is a god, and my refusal to agree with their outlook may at times give them the impression that I side with Bush when I do not.
And admittedly, hating Bush got old. I didn't pay much attention to him at first, then he started getting progressively worse, drew a lot of attention, and then after a few years I think everyone burnt out on it all. I had no desire to talk about Bush and just hearing the word now makes me want to stab someone. The complaints have been done to death. Obama, however, is new, and has immediately started doing things I disagree with, so it's easier to get worked up about it. After he's around a while, and especially if he serves a second term, I'm sure I'll get sick of so much as hearing his name as well.
-
Thread is totally derailed, but fuck it. Also, let me just say that I am NOT trolling for once; I am seriously trying to discover the consistency and logic behind Que's politics.
Also also, this post is going to make Que want to stab someone to death, but those two things are unavoidable (both that this thread would piss Que off and that he would eventually stab someone).
On to the matter at hand: Que, I notice you act offended when I accuse you of favoring Bush over Obama, but then you throw out statements like this:
Bush haters think Obama is a god
I won't say "no one thinks Obama is a god," because there probably are people that fucking stupid, just as there were people dumb enough to think Bush was chosen by god - but when you make a blanket statement like that, you imply that everyone who hates Bush is stupid enough to think Obama is a god, and therefore that everyone who hates Bush is fucking retarded.
THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION KIDNAPPED AND TORTURED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. This has been documented so thoroughly that I won't even bother to provide a link unless someone actually asks for one. The truth is that you must be retarded if you DON'T hate Bush.
I'm not stupid. I know Obama will do something morally repugnant, eventually, like most presidents do. I also know that Bush's tenure was a catastrophe, far worse than most other US presidents. Although I have full confidence that Obama will fuck up, I doubt he will ever reach the same low as Bush. And that's why I object to other statements you make:
I think both of them are charlatans and liars.
While this is probably factual, it's also misleading, because it implies that there is a substantial equivalence between Bush and Obama. That fact is, as far as anyone can tell, Obama is by far the lesser evil. (It also implies that Obama will lie as often as Bush did, which I find highly unlikely.)
Now fine, maybe I've misinterpreted you for the last few years, but I've never seen you express the same vitriol for Bush that you do for Obama, and that's in spite of the fact that Bush is at least ten times as deserving of it.
-
Wow, I feel like I just read a D post... fuck, now there's 2 of them.
-
Okay, so what the hell do I care whether or not you feel my vehement hatred has been evenly granted to two political figures? And why do I care that you feel Obama is the lesser evil when I feel he's the same evil, just with a different distribution of evilness? It's called a difference in political viewpoint. I could just as easily act offended that you have the audacity to try and refute my "Bush haters think Obama is a god" statement when all Obama's supporters buy into his line of bullshit and assume worshipful poses underneath the 8 billion images that have been drawn of his face, in blatant imitation of longstanding communist and socialist propaganda. For fuck's sake, one of the popular posters was a giant image of his face with "OBEY" written underneath. I'm sure you'll call it parody, but I call it a slow decline into a nation of frightened, stupid people who can't make the necessary choices to keep from letting government continue to expand, bloat, and accept more power unto itself. Fine, so saying people worship Obama is hyperbole, but you get the fucking point; and if anyone here should understand hyperbole, it should be you.
-
Fine, forgive me for trying to treat you as an equal. I'll go back to dismissive and insulting.
-
man just what is going on in here

Some gay couple is having a spat.

Some gay couple is having a spat.
I don't know why but the words "gay" and "spat" in the same sentence sound gross to me. Ew.
-
Fine, forgive me for trying to treat you as an equal. I'll go back to dismissive and insulting.
Actually, you were insulting the entire time, so you don't really have any need to go "back" to it. Despite this, I wasn't really trying to be confrontational, I just don't understand why this conversation started, or why you suddenly wanted some deeper understanding of the political views of a guy you spend most of your time insulting and calling a religious zealot.

Would an inappropriate mention of GPW's ding-dong ease the tension? I hear it does a lot of good in the other threads.
Brought to you by the GPW for Purple Helmet Warrior campaign.

Now I'm just disturbed.
