Title: Big ass thread of random E3 crap
Post by: idolminds on Tuesday, June 02, 2009, 01:22:41 PM
Might as well post the "little things" here so we don't fill the boards with a million game threads that will get one or two replies.

Anyway, the Sony conference just ended. Game-wise they did well, especially PSP. Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Fat Princess are all coming to PSP. Final Fantasy 7 just went up today on PSN. PS3 saw the Team Ico "The Last Guardian" game, GT5 trailer, God of War 3, Assassins Creed 2 gameplay, Uncharted 2, etc. Nice showing.

Hardware was...mixed. They have some motion control thing that a lot of people said looked impressive. Better than what MS showed. But it apparently looks like a dildo and is still a prototype, so it's going to be a while before we see it. PSP Go is $250 so it won't sell shit, and there was no PS3 price drop.

Overall I think their show went well, and it wasn't soul crushing like the MS show.
----

Nintendos show I guess was similar. They had their usual gimmicky stuff...no idea what that pulse monitor thing is good for. But they showed off Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros 2, Golden Sun DS, Metroid: Other M, and their press site has a new Professor Layton, Picross 3D, as well as other games. Hardcore gamers are still bitching, but what is it they want from Nintendo? Fuck, we're getting Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and a bunch of other games. What do they want? And dont say "fewer sequels" when thats what everyone is showing.

I got G4TV on right now.
They're showing off Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer for the PS3.
Quantic Dream's very own David Cage is showing the game off.

If you remember, this is the same company that made Indigo Prophecy.

It reminds me a lot of Indigo -- w/ a good deal of interactive cut-scenes; different pathways and results based on your actions and decisions in-game; and of course the usual adventure gaming type of stuff.

Looks cool. I really hope it gets a PC port, myself...

I knew *this* had to put in an E3 thread... (http://news.bigdownload.com/photos/e3-2009-booth-model-pictures-day-1/2052308/)

EDIT:
Watching G4TV. They are showing off The Beatles: Rock Band.
Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney are there talking about the game.

EDIT 2:
They showed some Alan Wake gameplay footage. Looks cool.

EDIT 3:
Holy crap @ Project Natal. That looks crazy.

LittlebigPlanet PSP screens (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/58979)

Looks about how you'd expect. Lack of shaders for that real cloth look is sad, but as long as I can dress up my sackboy and create and play a bunch of user levels it'll be grand. Hopefully we get some video to see if they kept the physics stuff.

N...no price drop?  Damn. Well, the new rumor is that the slim is coming out at the same price once current stock evaporates and part of that incorporated Sony keeping the whole thing under wraps for a while.  Something to hope for?  Who knows, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'll wait until tv prices go down a bit more or there's a wicked game bundle i want to pick up.

Check out this youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Gamekyo). Guy is showing off gameplay vids of various games, but the cool ones so far are the PSP ones. Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm. Its just a cam of the screen as hes playing, but I havent seen any direct feed video of these games yet. They look pretty damn good to me.

Already played through it on my PSP last year via cfw.

Yeah, CFW FTW. Still, for others its cool. Unless you were trying to see the game on ebay. Now you're hosed.

So I downloaded a few videos last night. Metal Gear, Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Soul Calibur...all PSP. They all look fantastic. Hopefully a few of them come out this year. I also saw the New Super Mario Bros Wii game. Looks fun especially if you have others to play co-op with.

I saw that Fat Princess is getting a PSP version with more maps, modes, and it even includes online multiplayer. Sweet!

Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/41j) gets a 360 release date of June 17th. The thread on the forum said the PC version is coming along, but it won't be out at the same time. Damn. Anyway, it looks like a cool game.

Bullshots? Dunno, but these are apparently screens from Assassins Creed: Bloodlines, the PSP game.

That guy looks like Storm Shadow's ancestor.  Sweet.

Why do you say "bullshots"?  I don't think that is very impressive looking, if that's the sort of thing you are referring to.

Check out this one: Shadow Complex (http://www.giantbomb.com/e3-2009-demo-shadow-complex/17-800/), really awesome looking side scroller, its almost what a new Metroid game should be doing. The game bugs at the end but still cool none the less.

Scott, they might not be totally faked or anything, but I don't see any aliasing in those shots. As far as I know the PSP doesnt do AA, so these are probably not really screens from the hardware.

So is this E3 just about the PSP?  Seems like 90% of everything people have been posting on here has been about the PSP.

Shadow Complex does actually look pretty boss.  Is that the new one from Epic?  I wouldn't mind seeing a Metroid like that.

And speaking of Metroid, I know I was kind of voicing my issues with Team Ninja and some of what I saw in the trailer... but after a day at work away from it, I have to admit I was daydreaming about the possibilities kind of a lot.  So it must have made a better impression on me than I at first realized, because I'm starting to get a little excited.  I'm still worried, and most of my concerns are still concerns, but the excitement that wasn't there before seems to be creeping in.  I'm seeing potential there now.

Why do you hate Cameron -- aside from Titanic? (OK so that was a big one)

Have you looked up his latest film project, Avatar? (nothing to do with the anime). That stuff looks mindblowingly awesome. It could mean to this gen. what the original SW trilogy mean to the last.

Just read about it a bit:

Now this is cool! (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/impressions-six-in-one-translator-dsiware/)

A 6-in-1 Translator for the DSi (on DSiWare). Translates words between English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian and German. But the cool part is in addition to the usual keyboard and handwriting input, you can use the DSi camera to take a picture of say a sign or a package, crop around the words, and it will then translate them. Thats awesome.

I've been following Scribblenauts for quite some time now, everyone was skeptical about if they could pull off the premise of the game. After seeing this video, people are becoming believers, I've watched it six times already.

Rockstar North's PS3-Only Exclusive - Agent
Rockstar North's upcoming Agent is a PS3 Exclusive.
They think it'll be their next cash cow (a la GTA). (http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6211640/take-two-grooming-agent-to-be-the-next-gta)

Possibly No Godfather 3 game planned by EA
At least not anytime soon, at least, given how poorly GF2 sold... (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2009/06/e3.html)

EDIT:
Sessler's Soapbox Returns for E3 2009
Here's Sessler's take on E3 2009 -- which he thinks is the best show in recent memory. (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696280/Sesslers-Soapbox-E3-2009-is-the-Best-Show-in-Recent-Memory.html)

I thought it had its highs -- Project Napal, Borderlands, Splinter Cell 5, Mafia 2, Alan Wake, there will be more Left 4 Dead stuff coming (that part is exciting), DA: Origins, Mass Effect 2, a surprisingly decent-looking Gothic 4, etc etc -- and definitely its share definitely of lows  -- new Left 4 Dead 2 is stand-alone at full price sequel (ugh!), James Cameron's horrible keynote, Steve Weibe didn't break the Donkey Kong record, etc etc.

I must say, regardless of what you think of the show overall, the coverage on E3 2009 -- Shacknews, GameSpot, G4TV, and the list goes on of other publications that followed this -- all did a hell of a job covering it.

Well that vid they were just goofing around with it. The gameplay is a series of puzzles, so you need to use whatever you can to solve them. The last thing I read, though, was you can't use the same thing twice. So you use a ladder in one level and you now need to get up someplace in another you're going to need to think of something else.

If you watched King of Kong, Billy Mitchell came off as being an ass. On the DVD extras he defends himself, saying stuff was out of context and such.

No...hes an asshole. (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696318/Gaming-Legend-Billy-Mitchell-Smarmily-Tweets-About-Steve-Wiebes-Failed-World-Record-Attempt.html)

I watched King of Kong -- but yeah, if Billy was as good as he supposed to be, he'd take on Steve head-to-head.

Or he would've broke Steve's record not by sending in a questionable video tape of him breaking the record, he would've done it w/ Twin Galaxies around -- and a crowd of people.

Or done it at FunSpot.

I don't think it quite works that way, I believe you have to beat each puzzle three times (or have to to fully beat the game) and each time you redo the puzzle you can't repeat the items you used. However, I think you can use them in later levels.

I've played Drawn to Life, it was an average game at best.

We will eventually see Project Natal coming to the 360, as expected.

And, possibly there might be a new XBox with a new name (X-Box Natal, maybe?) coming out w/ some newer hardware -- which will come with built-in Natal support. (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174762)

That project Natal thing looks f'ing amazing. Seriously wow. The possibilities.

Agreed, Pug.

I think it'll be even more exciting, once it's in its later stages -- when designers learn the tech and have taken some time to get used to it, so later on they really take it to higher and more complex levels.
