Freeman did his dirty work with a crowbar.  Snake did his with his bare hands.

Although Gamespot sucks.  That's not even Solid Snake in the picture

Snake, definitely.  I think Freeman is actually one of the worst characters in gaming history.  Snake is actually interesting, even compared to characters in other mediums, despite the ridiculousness of some of what makes MGS MGS.  Gordon is a cardboard cutout who doesn't speak, and whose only interaction with anyone is the robotic and ridiculously overstated hero-worship of the bumbling pack of morons Valve populated HL2's world with.
