i'm hungover and my body hurts. it turns out that roller discos and alcohol are a terrible idea, especially if you can't skate.

Yeah, well you're talking - well, okay, you're typing - to a former figure roller skater who skated for over 15 years competitively...

Naw, he can get up. :)
Always got to get back up, man!

Falling on skates - if you fall the wrong way - can hurt like Hell.

My Hot water tank decided to start leaking and it flooded about a 15 square foot area around it...sigh...

I heard weird noises last night, and I jumped out of bed ready to smash some faces, and it was the water tank leaking...

Figure roller skating.
Same stuff as figure ice skating pretty much, but instead done on roller skates.

Some MyD vids of his skating here.
Shameless plug. (http://www.youtube.com/themysterd)

Holy crap dude.  That's pretty awesome.

I was never comfortable enough to go anywhere but straight on roller skates...and for some reason i could only push off with my right foot.

I mean I didn't even realize that this shit was possible on roller skates.  I've gotta know how you originally got involved in this stuff.

I could barely skate too, when I was like a kid, first starting out. I hated it, at first - LOL.
Like most things in life - enough practice and dedication can make you quite good at something.

Sure. When I was a kid, my dad and mom took me to a public skating session on a Saturday morning at a nearby skating rink. Skating was something my mom and dad liked to do, but of course they never did it like competitively or anything like I did. They did it for fun. I didn't like it at first b/c of its learning curve - but, I decided to keep giving it a try just for the hell of it...

Eventually, after a while of keeping at it and constantly going back, a skating coach at the rink came up to me, thought I've gotten better and thought I should take private lessons. I was around almost 10, at that time.

That's pretty much how I got started and then got into competitive figure roller skating...

d, you should work as a helper at a roller rink - the guys there last night just went up to all the pretty girls who were having trouble, took them by the hand and pulled some moves. seems like a guaranteed way to meet girls.

This morning was fun for me. I got up at 6:00am and got drunk to cheer for the Philadelphia Marathon.

I wish they would hold marathons at more reasonable drinking hours.

Marathon runner: Why are we running at two in the morning? I can't see shit!
Marathon planner: This man needs to get drunk at a reasonable hour, damnit!
