Wow this just looks kinda disappointing. I know it is just a 3 minute segment from a 120 minute movie designed to sell, but it seems to show very little in common with what made the first movie special. Plus the main villain looks idiotic.

Doesn't do it for me either. Evil Russian villain? Meh!
-
Hey, Russians are filthy and evil. You never know. And yes, that was a playful dig at you, Cools!
As for the trailer, it started off better than it ended. I'll still see it. Probably via Netflix.

Looks as good as anything they showed for the first one. I was shocked that movie turned out to be as fun as it was. I won't judge too harshly... some of it looks a bit stupid, but it also looks like they focused on only a couple elements for the promo. And I liked dudes crazy energy whips. Wish I had me some of those.
*shrug*

I am sort of familiar with Iron Man lore since I used to read it ages ago and I want to say that the villain is Whiplash I think. He has weapons that deal with electricity and usually wears a leather mask, but his outfit is normally rather bare like in the trailer. I actually liked the trailer and look forward to what they continue to do with this.

At first I thought it was Omega Red, on account of the Russian accent.
Wasn't Whiplash a chick though?!

Also from Marvel.com: Whiplash (http://marvel.com/universe/Whiplash_%28unrevealed%29)
Whiplash and her husband Blacklash enjoy the pleasures of leather to the point that they decided to use this enjoyment to become leather clad assassins. The two have enjoyed various leather parties, some of which were also attended by Swordsman. When the Commission on Superhuman Activities persuaded the Thunderbolts to track down super-villains and recruit them to join the pro-registration side of the Superhuman Registration Act, Blacklash and his wife were convinced to join the Thunderbolts.
The Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiplash_%28comics%29) shed a lot more light.
Whiplash was born in Wilmington, Delaware. She was a professional criminal, and a mutant with unrevealed abilities and she used adamantium wires which were connected to her gloves as whips. She was part of Critical Mass' mutant Band of Baddies. The Baddies kidnapped "Mr. Beck" and his mutant daughter in order to coerce them to join their band. They forced the daughter to knock out Spider-Man and Wolverine, but they quickly recovered. The daughter then unleashed her powers, blew up the warehouse they were in, and defeated all of the Baddies. Whiplash disappeared after the daughter's telekinetic explosion enabled her to get free.
In the Civil War, two other minor-league villains, one male, one female, have appeared bearing the names Whiplash and Blacklash. Both are past associates of the current Swordsman (Andreas von Strucker) and were frequenters of leather parties before taking up the name of the original Blacklash, who is now dead.
Ultimate Whiplash
A male Whiplash has been mentioned, and has appeared, in Ultimate Iron Man #2.
Cool. The comic book world is still confusing, so not much has changed in the last 15 years.

This was WAY too long for its own good at around 2 hours. Could've been much better, if they trimmed the fat. It was okay. Nowhere as good as the original movie.
-
I thought it sucked. Had some good moments, but overall, a waste of 2 hours.

I thought it was totally awesome.
