I bought the newest issue, Jan 2010. I bought it for the cover disc. They advertise the Runes of Magic client. In fact, on the big cardboard insert it says "WOW! The full game client for this award-winning MMO". Great! I've actually been looking at those free to play MMOs and wanted to give this one a shot, but fuck...a 5GB download just isn't going to happen. So now I don't have to download it!
Or, more specifically, I don't have to download all of it.

Oh hey look, it only had 2GB on the disc and now it wants me to download the remaining 3GB. Yeah, thats not going to happen. I sent them an email, because this is bullshit.

Yeah I hate this crap. I remember back when I got my ATi Radeon 9800 XT and it came with a free voucher for HL2. When HL2 came out and I redeemed the voucher, I chose the option that gives me a CD-ROM. It was like $5 to get the media. It was just a CD-ROM with the Steam installer on it. I was pissed.

Anything to make a buck. Hopefully they'll read it and feel ashamed of themselves. Maybe they'll even mail you a disk with the whole client!

Glad you wrote to them Idol. I am sure they will respond.

Man, that is lame. I hope you get something out of it though.

That's a really shitty thing to do, and a 3GB download is no small thing even on broadband. I've got a 768 down connection and 3GB would take me a bit to finish. Consider dialup people and it's fucking ridiculous. I don't mind the idea of having to download a client or something, but advertising that it's on the disc and then NOT having it all on there is bullshit.

That blows!
