-
Hmmmm....I have not played much of any of those games.
-
Aside from the original Deus Ex, I wouldn't bother with the rest.
-
What the hell is up with the DX game pricing?
Both games sell for $10 each originally, but buying the pack for both is $30...
Now they are on sale for $5 each, and the pack is $12.
-
That's weird. I thought bundle deals were supposed to offer incentive by making the pack more affordable than buying the games individually.
I have seen that happen before though.

Monday, March 29 through Thursday, April 1, all Quake games (excluding Enemy Territory) will be 50% off. (http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/03/25/quake-game-franchise-gets-50-percent-sale-on-steam-next-week/)
That includes the "Quake 2007 Collection". There's only one Quake Collection on steam, and it doesn't say 2007 anywhere on it, but I assume that's the one they mean.
So that's:
Quake = $5
Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon = $2.50
Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity = $2.50
Quake II = $5
Quake II Mission Pack: Ground Zero = $2.50
Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning = $2.50
Quake 3 Pack: Quake III Arena + Team Arena = $10
Quake Collection (all of the above) = $15
(note that Quake 3 and Team Arena are listed seperately for $20, but upon clicking either you see a link to a Q3+TA pack for $20. I'm assuming the 2 pack with be $10 for the sale. If not, the Collection will be $5 cheaper than buying both at $10 each, and will include all the other games too.)

Torchlight weekend deal for $5 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/), originally $20.
-
Trine deal: $5 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/), originally $20.
-
That's also a good deal.
-
Deus Ex - Mid-Week Madness Sale on Steam.
Deus Ex: GOTY Edition = $2.50
Deus Ex: Invisible War = $2.50
Deus Ex Collection - Steam Pack (Deus Ex: GOTY Edition + Deus Ex: Insivible War) = $5.00
(http://store.steampowered.com/sub/296/)

Is IW worth it at all? I mean, I heard nothing but bad stuff about it when it came out. Is it even worth the $2.50?
-
Well, I just got the Collection for $5. You motherfuckers better be right about this game.
Is IW worth it at all? I mean, I heard nothing but bad stuff about it when it came out. Is it even worth the $2.50?
I checked this out and most people seem to say yes. IT got an 8/10 on Gamespot at the time and most people said it was a letdown but it wasn't a horrible game. Fuck, you spend more than that at taco bell and walk away dissatisfied anyways.
-
Well, I checked it out. I wouldn't bother...it seems really shitty. I'm probably going to uninstall it and never play it unless I absolutely need something to continue the first. In the first 10 min I saw that the level design was probably bad all the way through, there were technical problems and the interface sucks.
-

It isn't just the price, but the time. Is it worth 5 to 6 hours messing around with IW before you never go back to it again, when they are dozens of newer games waiting in the wings? I'd say no.
-
I don't know how DX:IW got a 8/10. It sucks. It really sucks when you compare it to its predecessor.
-
I played an hour into IW and can further confirm that it's pretty bad. Technically, the game is sloppy. You can't enable AA and bloom at the same time, which isn't a huge deal but the game looks bad anyways, especially for an Unreal 2 engine game. Tons of loading screens, and for whatever reason, the game minimized ever time you hit a loading screen and then goes back to full screen. Really annoying.
Gameplay wise, it doesn't seem much better. There are points where it seems cool, but the inventory is too small, the targeting reticule blows hard, and none of the choices you're given are anything you want to do. Uninstalled.
-
DX: IW suffers from consolitis and streamlinism. IW's biggest problems...well, been pretty much said already. If they got rid of the horrible in-game performance/technical issues; the unified ammo; and the crummy UI - yeah, it'd be great. I still liked the story and the gameplay. Where's a modder to totally fix this shit? :P Has any modder fixed this? C'mon - if Bloodlines and Arcanum can get a modder to mod the game up - what about IW? :P Despite its issues, I still liked IW - but, it should've been great, not just "good."
The original Deus Ex is one of the best games ever made. End of freakin' story.
-
Well, the most that's been done for DX:IW was John P's hi-res texture pack (http://www.john-p.com/textures/DX-IW/).
-
Well, the most that's been done for DX:IW was John P's hi-res texture pack (http://www.john-p.com/textures/DX-IW/).
Now all we need is a UI Mod and a no-more-unified-ammo mod (so enemies drop NORMAL ammo), dammit.
-
No, we need a general "de-crapify DX:IW" mod. It would be a massive undertaking.

Haha isn't that just Deus Ex 3?

We've yet to find out...

So, I may get lynched for this but FPS games from the late 90's have not aged well and as such I am no longer able to play Deus Ex. I'm not talking about graphically; I'm talking about gameplay mechanics. You can tell how much a fair bit of the design was way ahead of it's time in how well it holds up, but certain aspects stand out like a sore thumb and make the game very hard to play for someone like me who never was into PC games during that era. It's the little shit like how melee weapons work, the enemy AI when you're trying to use stealth, and the hit detection in general.
By no means am I saying the game is bad...I actually really liked the parts of it I could play. I'm just saying I can't play it.
-
You donkey rapist.
-
Sorry. I'll probably try again one day. The story, soundtrack, and atmosphere are top notch. The graphics are dated but in no way even close to unplayable. For me, it's the stiffness of the combat and some factors regarding the stealth gameplay that I really can't deal with. As it is an RPG, I'm sure that they could even improve as the game goes on, but for the time being I'm staying away from it.

Those things were problematic for me even in its day! I still pushed through the tedious bits and experienced its great story.
By the way, if DX:IW is not doing it for you try out Project: Snowblind. It was originally conceived as a multiplayer-focused third game in the Deus Ex series, Deus Ex: Clan Wars. But after the pathetic release of DX:IW, it was decided to set the game in its own universe. It's a spiritual sequel to Deus Ex and retains many visible and conceptual links to its progenitors. Definitely superior to DX:IW in every way. The multiplayer was fun back then and the singleplayer is pretty decent too.
It's funny, when I first played it, before I even knew it had anything to with Deus Ex, I thought "Holy shit, this should have been DX:IW!" To my surprise, it was later revealed that it was originally meant to be.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is Steam's Weekend Deal for $14.99. (http://store.steampowered.com/app/7940/)
-
....That is a really shitty deal.
-
Yeah pretty shitty. It's still a great game but $10 would be an actual deal.
-
Yeah, with the sequel being out and the strong MP focus I was kind of surprised the game wasn't $15 already. I imagine most of the players have jumped to MW6

WOw, considering GTAIV and EfLC are in the pack, that's one heck of a deal!
-
Vice City for $2.50! That's what I call bang for the buck.
-
WOw, considering GTAIV and EfLC are in the pack, that's one heck of a deal!
If I didn't have GTA4, I'd probably be all over that for EFLC - and probably most of that collection already. I'm only missing EFLC and Wild Bully.
I already spent my $7.49 on GTA4 (Steam). I'll have to play the waiting game for EFLC to drop in price.
EDIT:
Vice City for $2.50! That's what I call bang for the buck.
You ain't kiddin' - at least 20 hours to finish the main quest stuff.
GTA: Vice City is my personal favorite of the GTA games. I'd love to see VC2 on a much-improved performing RAGE Engine (GTA4's engine).
-
Fuck, I don't currently have any of those games, although I've owned both Max Payne and a few of the GTA games at some time or other. Really, at that price I can't afford not to pull the trigger.
PS...fuck you STEAM.
-
Blah, Manhunt is on sale for $2.50 but Max Payne 1 and 2 aren't. There should be a pack for just those 3. Though I would just be rebuying them anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.
-
I really did not enjoy Manhunt when I played it. Perhaps I went about it the wrong way.
-
Manhunt was a mediocre game that was carried by it's violence. Not just the violence, but the guy egging you on in your ear, "kill him! do it!". On the Xbox version you could wear the Live headset and just that guy's voice would be in your headset, with the rest of the game audio coming through the TV/speakers.
And of course, Max Payne 1 and 2 were awesome.

I missed this one as well. Came back to my computer like 30 minutes after it ended. Like I said though, I do have them both on disc so it's no big deal. (I'm actually still using the mousepad that came with the first game.)

Hey, have you played FUEL? Or TOCA Race Driver 3?
EDIT:
Bully: Scholarship Edition is $7.50 on Steam.
WARNING: Many people have had trouble even trying to get the game to even boot, due to tons of technical issues - such as myself. And even once you get it going, performance has been said to be all over the place by many.
Sale until 10pm Pacific, for those brave/crazy enuff... (http://store.steampowered.com/app/12200/)
-
DIRT 2 is a GREAT game. I got it for free with my GPU and was really really impressed.
I pulled the trigger on the Rockstar pack....may have been a mistake. The rumours are true: GTA IV runs like shit on two cores. I've been fucking with the settings a bit here and there and it's playable, but the fps will dip down close to 10 seemingly randomly. It's not a case of reducing resolution or anything (graphical settings don't help at all), it's just a case of a poorly optimized port. Pretty much what everyone has been saying for the last 18 months. Downloading San Andreas as we speak, but I'll still try to get GTA IV going.....the new physics just seem so much better.
-
GTA: San Andreas is $4.99 on Steam until 10pm Pacific.
(75% off) (http://store.steampowered.com/app/12120/)
-
Got GTA 4 working well. Man, it's awesome.
-
Got GTA 4 working well. Man, it's awesome.
Yeah - it's a really good game, to say the very least, once you get it running well and all. I had to turn down A LOT of stuff on my aging PC to get it running right. For me, also running GameBooster in "Gaming Mode" helped quite a bit, as well - as it turns off unnecessary programs running in the background.
-
GTA4 PC is $7.50 on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/12210/) until 6pm Pacific.
GTA: Classics - Steam Pack is also on sale until 6pm Pacific.
This pack comes w/ GTA1, 2, 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/605/)
-
FUCK! I should have totally bought that instead. Oh well.....Max Payne is very enjoyable if memory serves me correctly.
