To complement our world-exclusive Portal 2 cover story, we will be rolling out supplementary features all through the month of March. Check back often for updates.

Stand alone, full price sequel. I wonder what they have planned. Portal worked so well because it was pretty much a "freebie" in the Orange Box, it was short but very well done, and the game mechanics were new and interesting. Portal 2 will most likely be longer, cost more, and have to come up with some new mechanic. Its going to be very hard to recapture what made Portal the success it was.
IActually, I think a multiplayer game of Portal could be fine, provided the level design was creative. Imagine running around in a map, looking for the opposition, when you find the ground suddenly disappear from under your feet. And let them fall some 500 feet from above into a pit of spikes.
I was sort of hoping that Portal 2 and Episode 3 would be the same game.

1UP: What's the big answer you give for Portal 2?
GN: "Oh Portal 2's great. It's the best game we've ever done."
Gabe Newell had this to say about Portal 2... (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178323)
It has to do with the Phantom. That console's as elusive as Duke Nukem Forever.

You got me all excited to click in this thread hoping for some portal 2 related awesomeness, but then its nothing but phantom talk, joy.

So I want to preorder this over steam, though buying the 2 pack would make it $10 cheaper if someone else would like to go in on it. Anyone?I'd love to, but I can only pay you back in an equivalent value Steam gift :P
Huh, I thought this info was posted here. If you buy the PS3 version, once its tied to your Steam account it actually unlocks the PC version as well.Yeah, I remember that being mentioned somewhere around here.

Hmm... thats tempting, but there's not anything I want for $40 on Steam right now.Hehe yeah, it's a tough call. We could could split that $40 into several microtransactions over the next while.
It’s Hard To Overstate My Satisfaction
The single player clocks in at around 8-10 hours, and is a satisfying amount of game for the money. Additionally, you get around 7 hours of co-op game play with no AI option - you can only play with a real person either in split-screen or online.
If you have the PS3 version, you can play over PSN, or you can log into your Steam account and play with your Steam friends. You also receive a code for a free PC and Mac copy of Portal 2.
If you buy the Xbox version you will not receive a code for a free PC or Mac copy, and you will not be able to play with Steam, but you will be able to access co-op through Xbox Live.

So, all the DLC stuff people complaining about....Nope, it's all just cosmetic crap: hats, skins, gestures, etc.
Is there anything that makes an impact on the actual gameplay of the game there?
Any new missions/levels in there for sale?
It's weird seeing these differences in stated game length. That review says 8-10 hours of SP, but not a single unofficial player review I've read (even the positive ones) gave anything even close to that. I think the highest I saw was 6 hours. The worst I saw was 3.
Everyone here needs to check this out, seriously. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4drucg1A6Xk)Cool. Really well done. How does she find the portal gun? It's almost like she has some sort of revelation, but I don't understand why.

Really? Valve said that?
Huh. That's kind of a big deal. For all the shit I give them HL and Portal were genuinely good. It seems like they've determined it's easier to create a little context and throw together a multiplayer experience that will sell like hotcakes.
What about Episode 3? (lol)I've been wanting a new Half-Life title for a LONG TIME - I'd rather have a full-fledged HL3, though.

Don't hold your breath. I'm pretty sure the announcement of the new CS was also meant to be a subtle "fuck you" to all the people waiting for more Half Life.I'm not holding it.
Don't hold your breath. I'm pretty sure the announcement of the new CS was also meant to be a subtle "fuck you" to all the people waiting for more Half Life.Yeah, but the new CS isn't even developed by Valve. Which I suppose could also be taken as an even deeper, more meaningful "fuck you."

What the fuck does Valve do all day? I mean, Steam, but that seems like it'd be a whole different department than their game development side. Did they have massive layoffs a few years back that no one noticed?I assume they're like Blizzard in that regard, years between releases etc. Perhaps the team is focused on making more hats for TF2 but who knows what's really going on.
