I went to the HSBC machine here to withdraw cash I needed to make a shipment. At first I heard the machine whirling in the background like normal, and I got a receipt telling me the transaction had gone through. But then I got NO cash and then another receipt telling me the transaction had been canceled.
I just now logged into my HSBC account, and the money has been debited, even though I obviously didn't get the cash.
The only problem is that I was withdrawing a lot of money so it isn't something I want to lose.

Wow, I would be pissed. I've never heard of that happening. You should contact your bank asap.
-
Yes, contact the bank, immediately if not sooner. Have both receipts ready.
-
As recommended, contact the bank and tell them exactly what happened.
-
I have had this happen once. I can't remembered the details but it worked out fine and was relatively hassle free if I remember. I think in my case it was only like $40 though.
-
Do you remember going to the bank or was it automatic? I've logged into HSBC and filed a complaint, but my dad had this happen to him and his thing was sorted automatically.
As for the amount, it was about $400.

I called the bank seconds after it happened and they said they could tell exactly what ATM it was and read the ATM error code (even though I didn't see one) and refund the money back into my account. I had the atm serial number and my receipts ready but they didn't need anything from me.

They'd also have video footage of you at the ATM sobbing like a little girl

It was a very long time ago, but I believe I went to the bank a day or two later and they told me it was already logged. Can't remember if they just put the cash through right away or if I had to wait a couple of days.

I know you are joking, but it reminds me of something I have to stop doing.
Whenever I go to the ATM and see the camera staring at me, I feel like I have to entertain whomever may be watching as I wait for my cash.
Sometimes I lick my lips really slowly. Sometimes I make kissy faces. Once, I did that crane kick maneuver thing from the Karate Kid.
OH GOD I AM NEVER GOING TO GET MY MONEY BACK!
-
So I went there and they told me they had already caught the mistake and that the money would be back in the account in a few days.
