Awesome! (http://www.gamesradar.com/f/what-ico-and-shadow-of-the-colossus-will-look-like-on-ps3/a-20100527105313465031)
So, sony might release the two games in HD for the PS3. Totally going to get it. I still play SOTC from time to time. I've played ICO, but my nephew stole, and sold my copy of it years ago. I'd love to play it again!
And when the hell is The Last Guardian supposed to come out? There has been no news on it for months.
-
Hell yes, I've always wanted to play these.
-
HELL YEAAA
I always wanted to play these. After the GoW collection I was so hoping for this.
-
Hell yeah. They actually listen to what people wanted.
-
Fan-fucking-tastic. I'd be all over that release in a heartbeat, and those are two games I might actually be able to sit down and play through again, unlike every game I seem to touch these days. I love them both so much.
-
Awesome.
-
Fuuuuug, I'd buy a PS3 for this.
-
Looks like re-releases and re-mastered an old(er) game into HD is the new thing, these days...

I wish it was the case across the board! Sega insists on reselling old games, without any changes, on new platforms. If you've browsed the Steam store you'll see the new listing of classic Sega Genesis titles. I would have considered buying them if they were remastered versions.
A good example of something I though was great: Monkey Island SE! Worth every penny. It's a revival of a classic game, not a tired and dated reiteration of the exact same thing.
-
So far this seems to be a rumor still? No confirmation as of yet.
-
Yeah, I actually looked at the article today. I really hope they do it, though.

I have no problem w/ re-releasing or re-vamping the graphics into HD for the classics - as long as they freakin' work on modern systems/platforms w/out issues.
I have The Secret of Monkey Island SE from Steam...ain't touched it yet...

I think a big part of the problem for Sega is that HD versions would be very very expensive...at least if they went the sprite route. Polygons, on the other hand......
-
. . . scale nicely into HD. The hard work there involves the 2D overlays, text, etc. So ICO and SotC should port up properly without reinventing too much.
-
Its more or less confirmed at this point. A listing for it showed up on Walmart.com a few days ago, and now Famitsu has talked about it. We'll know more about it tomorrow after the TGS press conference.

There's a rumor floating around that the game may not indeed be a collection and could be sold separately. I hope that is not the case, but even if it does end up being release as two separate games, I will likely pick up both.
-
Not just straight ports, looks like they are updating some textures and such. SOTC will be solid 30FPS (I guess the game was designed around 30FPS. Which matters for animation. Ever play Halo on PC with uncapped FPS? Jitter-city animations.)
EDIT
Spring 2011
The version of Ico will be the european version, which had a slightly different ending and a few other little changes.
EDIT 2
EU and NA versions will be both games on a single disc. Hooray!

Damn, SotC still looks incredible, totally can't wait for this. Has there been any word on the Last Guardian and when that's possibly going to be released?
-
That looks amazing. It should be a day one purchase for me.

Holiday 2011. Looks so great.
-
Can I get a fuck to the yeah three times over?
-
Fucking awesome, this year's TGS has had a bunch of awesome news so far.
-
Fucking awesome. I will be picking these up, and even though I barely play games, I will most certainly be playing through Last Guardian day one. Super fucking excited.
-
Apparently this collection is going to support 3D as well.
-
You know how much I love Shadow of the Colossus? I don't have a PS3, but I really would like to play some of it's games, like Uncharted, Resistance, and Killzone. Shadow of the Colossus is the one that makes me really fucking want a PS3 though, above all those others.
Damn I think I might borrow my brother's PS2 again and play some SoC.
-
I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure SotC was fully playable last time I tried to run it in an emulator...and it looked fantastic.
-
I was actually all set to replay it just the other day... and now I'm just going to wait. No point, especially when I hardly ever finish or even touch games these days. But that would be one I really just might.
-
Sorry to bump this old thread, but the Shadow of Colossus/ICO HD pack and The Last Guardian are both being delayed. (http://www.giantbomb.com/news/todays-bummer-news-the-last-guardian-team-ico-hd-collection-delayed/3058/)
-
The sadness is overwhelming.
-
Damn.
-
Sad, but hey, at least it gives us all time to work on our backlogs......
-
haha, good one!

I don't know why I thought about this today, but I thought I'd post it.
Link! (http://www.psy-q.ch/mirrors/thegia/sites/www.thegia.com/psx2/ico/ico.html)
This is a review of ICO from a defunct gaming site called the GIA that focused mainly on RPGs and unique titles. I feel like ICO had something of a quiet release and the first time I really anything of substance about it was after reading this review. I immediately jumped on a bus and then a train and then another bus to get to the only game store that I knew in the area (there weren't a lot of easily accessible stores that sold games in Berkeley at the time). When I got there the clerk told me I should be buying something else (I think it was Spy Hunter) because ICO was gay and "boring as fuck." Just take my money dude.
Also, Giant Bomb did a quicklook of the set. (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-ico-shadow-of-the-colossus-the-collection/17-4764/) The games still look awesome.
-
Ico was awesome. I love how it told a story without words or narration. That's pretty impressive.
Edit: Thinking back, I remember Ico more fondly. Shadow of the Colossus was impressive to me for its unconventional design, like Ico, and the battles with the colossi were incredible but in between those battles there wasn't much fun to be had. Sure, there was the wonder of the world and a slight element of exploration, but it was kind of boring. Ico had far fewer lulls and when it did, there was still a large sense of weight to the game.

This comes out next week.
-
One thing I've seen talked about is the resolution. The game will run in whatever res your PS3 is outputting to your TV. In the case of SotC running in 1080p causes slowdown (for that authentic PS2 feel!). If you limit the PS3 to outputting 720p then the game runs smoothly. So just keep that in mind.
-
So...bought, playing, is awesome. Getting to relive these games because its been so long since I played either.
And I just have to say fuck you to the Water Tower section of Ico. FUCK YOU SO HARD. Maybe its because I'm a little tired but I must have had to replay that section like 30 goddamn times due to bad jumps or something. Seriously. According to my save file I just blew 40 minutes getting through there (there goes the 4 hour trophy...will have to get it on playthrough 2).
-
/me sighs
Maybe someone will treat me for Christmas.
-
ICO = beat. At least playthrough 1. Pretty sure I can get the under 4 hour trophy on playthrough 2 since I wasted a bunch of time trying to remember how to solve the various puzzles. Thoguh beating it under 2 hours would take some practice and streamlining/planning.
SotC I just downed #9 in the geyser field. I love that one. I've been enjoying the experience, doing a bunch of exploring, finding fruits and lizards, etc. Those lizards with the white tails are easier to find thanks to the higher resolution. They are not all that much easier to shoot, though. Crafty little bastards.
-
Haha I remember not having any idea about the lizards on my playthrough of that game, I didn't get a single one.
-
Heh. It's not really that important as you can beat the game without them, but its kinda fun. And the extra grip is nice to have.
Its especially important this time since there is a trophy for climbing the main tower and finding the secret garden up there. The US PS2 version this was easy. Due to a glitch you could diagonally jump while climbing and it wouldn't lower your grip meter, so with a little practice you could get up there pretty easily. The PS3 version is based off the PAL version where this glitch is fixed. So to climb up there you need all the grip you can find, and in fact have to play through the game several times (it keeps between tries) to have enough to do it.
14 down, coming up on completing this playthrough. So fun.
-
Ok, SotC beat. Funny, the hardest boss was #15 for me. I had to fight him for an hour since I couldn't remember how to get him to drop his sword, and then I had trouble getting down to his palm for the final stab. I wish you could turn of Mr Hint Voice. The 20th time he tells you the same unhelpful hint you wish you could stab sound.
I was thinking about the emptiness of the SotC world and how I really enjoy the minimalism. They built this huge land and you only really need a few sections of it. The rest is just there for you to enjoy and explore.
If the game was made by anyone else they would have filled that space with lots of little bad guys to fight so you can earn XP, level up your grip and health, have you find 30 variations on the sword and bow, etc. The simplicity is just refreshing. You don't even have to go "earn" the sword or bow, you just have them from the very beginning. You never come to a colossus and go "Oh I need <special magic widget> to beat this guy."
