I think we've talked about SMBX (http://www.supermariobrothers.org/smbx/) before.  It's a fan-made Super Marios Bros game akin to SMB 3 and maybe SMW.  They've updated the engine and versatility as of a week ago, and it's close to the real deal, and more fun than I remember.  Start with the Joystiq story (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/31/super-mario-bros-x-trailer-takes-us-to-a-special-place/) that served as my heads up, if you're interested.
