This press release (thanks Mike Martinez) announces European publisher JoWooD's intentions of moving into the North American market with the takeover of Canadian publisher DreamCatcher:

Liezen, Austria/Toronto, Kanada: JoWooD Productions Software AG (ATXPrime: JWD) announces that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Canadian based video games publisher, DreamCatcher Inc. This acquisition will provide JoWooD with direct access to every major retailer of PC and video games in North America. In addition, JoWooD will own America's #1 publisher of Adventure games further underlining JoWooD’s commitment to strengthen and broaden its distribution capacity through a proven and established network and to deliver compelling PC and video games to consumers worldwide.

"Acquiring DreamCatcher perfectly aligns with JoWooD’s strategy to deliver high-quality computer and videogames globally. We are looking at DreamCatcher as our North American counterpart and there are numerous and important synergies waiting to be exploited by all of us" says Albert Seidl, CEO of JoWooD Productions Software AG.

JoWood has made some pretty fun stuff, except the only one I can remember off the top of my head was Neighbours from Hell.

JoWood has had a storied and rather strange past.  But they've published some quality stuff, and... I guess they had an internal studio?  I honestly can't remember.  Anyway... interesting news.  I think DreamCatcher managed to make a few bucks off Painkiller, but I can't remember anything other than that other than some crappy shit.  JoWood is honestly probably the better organization to have around.

I think DreamCatcher's most notable releases besides Painkiller were with The Adventure Company. They made some decent puzzle and mystery games.

I'd have to say JoWood's most acclaimed work would have to be Piranha Byte's Gothic games (1, 2, and 3).

Only JoWood game I've played was Silent Storm.  The game was decent, but I experienced a plethora of bugs in the game including a game-killing one.  Unfortunately, JoWood's support is just about non-existant (a forum that gets no attention).

When I saw this, I remembered a JoWood folder on one of my drives.  It turned out to be Arx Fatalis (developed by Arkane Studios).
