The ioQuake3 guys are already one the case of cleaning up the code to have a nice solid base for people to work from.

Also the Xreal project, which sort of started as just an engine and then moved on to make a standalone game, has dropped their plans for the standalone game and will be working on updating Enemy Territory. Info and a tech video here (http://xreal-project.net/?p=362).
