Title: I'm teaching myself programming...
Post by: ScaryTooth on Friday, August 13, 2010, 05:11:24 PM
Sort of.

Been trying to teach myself C++ to begin with. Guess I just needed a new hobby. It's neat so far. I've made a very simple calculator, and a program that converts Celsius to Fahrenheit, and vice versa.

I want to get good enough to actually be able to make a program with a GUI and everything. We'll see, I'm just starting out. Anyone dabble in this stuff?

I've got a fairly extensive knowledge of C, C++, Java, and C#.  As of this moment, I'm using C# a lot to write regression and automated test suites for web services.

Made a living out of programming, mostly C and eventually C++.  Been a while, though, like 8 years since my last job at it.

Were you ever certified, Cobra?

I have a buddy who programs some. He just does random freelancing. Makes login scripts and such for businesses. Makes a few dollars here and there. Other than that he never uses his degree. Heh.

Certification is a recent concept, in relation to my timeline.   :P  I have a college degree and 20 years experience.  I'm sure if I ever care about programming again, I'll pursue whatever the big boys want for credentials these days.
