I haven't used the service for several years now, but when I did, I never felt like I got my money's worth out of it.  This price increase is retarded, but it won't change the fact there they will still have millions of subscribers.

Personally, I generally hate the pay to play service model that more and more of the gaming industry is trending towards, but it does seem inevitable.  That said, I essentially refuse to pay for any of them -- I would rather not use it then have to pay for it.  Playstation Plus and Xbox Live are not exceptions.

I'm in the weird situation of not using XBL enough to really justify continuing to pay for it.  But the times I do turn my 360 on I definitely want access to it.

I'll have to get a card before the price goes up. My year runs out in either January or February. I use Live non stop, definitely on a daily basis.

MS will let you lock in the price now (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pricelock/default.htm) at $40, for one more year when your renewal comes due.  The catch is that you have to sign up for auto-renew in order to do that.

There are sales on point cards all the time though. I think I bought my last one for 30.

This doesn't affect me.  I had Live Gold for about three months, realized I used features it delivered three times, canceled it, and never looked back.

I heard there was a sale at dell.com for $30 not too long ago, and when I first heard about the price hike, Amazon had it for $40. I'm hoping to find a sub $40 deal before the price increase. I could lock in at the $40 direct from MS, but I don't like that I'll have a change put on my account when I may not remember it's coming.

Well if anyone is interested, a year of XBL just dropped to $30 for a limited time.
