Call me interested.

Ah so it's what spore should have been, neat.
-
Amazing. It kinda reminds me of Sim Earth but much better looking.
-
Very cool.
-
I'm gonna have to upgrade soon. I don't think my comp has the balls to run that at a reasonable frame rate any more.

QL at GB (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-from-dust/17-4531/)! Looks pretty awesome!

Bluesnews (http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&boardid=1&threadid=124002) reports that the Steam page for From Dust (http://store.steampowered.com/app/33460/) mentioned that this PC game requires High Speed Internet Connection and UbiSoft account to play.

Ubisoft is up to their old antics again. They're just trying to sell that crap again.
Honestly they should put it out of its misery. If they wanna keep trying to force it down our throats they should try in at least 5 years time, who knows maybe the trends will have changed by then and we'll be more accepting of a retarded DRM scheme.
-
Only a few facts are going to matter here, like how many people buy their games in this condition, and how quickly the DRM gets bypassed. The company won't give a crap about a righteously indignant vocal minority.
It's a shame that this is taking center stage instead of the game itself. A lot of good work went into it, even if the results are less fun than I had hoped. This kind of game needs to let you grow into your role as a god, instead of throwing you head first into a world of hurt. Still, the trial is entertaining enough on its own, and I'll keep it around for a while. In a way I'm glad. It would have been hard sticking to my decision not to support Ubisoft if the game had turned out great.

VG247 -> UbiSoft responds, saying From Dust PC won't require "Always on" part of their DRM. (http://www.vg247.com/2011/07/28/trouble-brewing-from-dust-pc-version-to-use-ubisoft-online-service-drm/)
I really don't know anymore, when it comes to these companies [shrug].
-
Out now (http://impulsedriven.com/fromdust), not a Steamworks game, DRM is a one-time activation, and it's $15. Not too bad. I can't bite now, but I might on a sale.
-
Well thats good. I'll have to pick this up at some point.
-
GMG was giving out free voucher codes via Facebook earlier for From Dust PC.
Bummer.
I was at work and missed out.
-
Reportedly (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/18/from-dust-does-need-online-badly-ported/), the PC port of this has some problems, one of which is a requirement of an online connection to launch the game. Buyer beware.
-
So...if you havent bought this yet, good for you. Apparently Ubisoft lied and it requires an online connection for every launch. Steam is actually giving refunds over this. Also I'm hearing that its not a good port, but I havent read too much on that.
Ubisoft is apparently going to make a statement about the DRM sometime today.
EDIT Damn you Cobra, stop being all fast!
-
I told you, they apologize for nothing. NOTHING!
-
So, how long until Ubisoft cuts PC sales due to lack of interest on the platform?
-
Gah. (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/18/ubisoft-edits-forum-keeps-from-dust-drm/) Pass on this one.
-
Gah. (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/18/ubisoft-edits-forum-keeps-from-dust-drm/) Pass on this one.
Call me when it's fixed and/or in the PC bargain bin.
-
I guess we're at the point where a total Ubisoft boycott is necessary.
-
Remember when I said Steam was giving refunds? Well...turns out thats not the case. Apparently what happened is Steam will refun preorders and there was like one guy who asked for a refund before the game actually released. But now its out, so fuck you.
-
I guess we're at the point where a total Ubisoft boycott is necessary.
Damn it, and I was really looking forward to Assassin's Creed Revelations!

I'm with you. If I must play a Ubi game, I'll buy it used.
-
Damn it, and I was really looking forward to Assassin's Creed Revelations!
I'll buy ACR PC when it gets cheaper and/or DRM gets officially toned-down.
Just like what I did w/ AC2 and ACBH.

UbiSoft says From Dust PC DRM to change in a few weeks - once the new patch is done, tested, and released. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9751064939/m/1511052349?r=1511052349#1511052349)
We recognize that one of our posts in the From Dust forum regarding the need for authentication in the game was not clear. We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding. Our tech teams are working on a patch that should release in approximately two weeks that will eliminate the need for any online authentication. This development time is required as we are working to ensure that those who have already started the game, and who’s progress is currently saved on our servers, will receive and save their game information locally. Once the patch is ready, players who already have the game will automatically receive the update on their next login and subsequent game sessions will be 100% offline.
-
Like that whole mess was even necessary.
We recognize that one of our posts in the From Dust forum regarding the need for authentication in the game was not clear. We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding.
It was clear, crystal clear. Their post was contrary to their previous announcement that there would be no online DRM. There was no misunderstanding, everybody got it and jumped ship (or tried) when they felt that Ubi screwed them. Ubi needs apologize for blatantly lying about the DRM not for a non-existent misunderstanding.
-
Now, if only Ubi does this for ALL their games - just not use any DRM schemes.

Online requirement for From Dust PC removed in new patch. (http://www.bluesnews.com/s/125353/from-dust-drm-patched)
From Dust DRM Patched
[Sep 08, 2011, 6:09 pm ET] - 1 Comment
Steam News announces the promised patch is now automatically available for From Dust to remove the requirement that the god game authenticate itself over the internet every time it's launched. The new version also moves saved game files out of the cloud and onto user's machines. Here are the patch notes
Title can be played in offline mode (no connection to the Internet is required after installing the patch)
Save file is moved from the Uplay/Ubisoft server to the local machine
