NEW - Nov 9th, 2011:
20 pieces of DLC planned for MW3. (http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/modern-warfare-3-to-get-20-pieces-of-dlc-over-nine-months/)
:o
OLD:
Joystiq -> French delivery truck hijacked, which had 6,000 copies of MW3 stolen. (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/06/report-french-delivery-truck-hijacked-6-000-copies-of-modern-w/)
Joystiq -> Maybe playing MW3 X360 early will NOT get you a ban...who knows. (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/psa-you-probably-wont-be-banned-for-playing-mw3-early-we-t/)
Joystiq -> Playing MW3 on X360 early could result in a XBL ban, even if you do own a legit copy of it. (http://www.destructoid.com/early-modern-warfare-3-play-could-ban-you-from-xbox-live-215184.phtml)
It's been reported KMart has been selling MW3 early. (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/kmart-sold-modern-warfare-3-early-copies-wind-up-on-ebay/)
GTTV - Launch Trailer. (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/launch-trailer-call-of/722932)
GameSpot -> COD: Modern Warfare 3 - Trailer. (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/callofdutymodernwarfare3/video/6315276)
Shacknews -> LA Times reports Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward working on MW3's SP side; Raven on the MP side. (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/67220)
-
Wait a second....they don't own the Modern Warfare name do they?

That's a crock of shit, as is anything that tries to restrict your use of your purchased games.

Yep, I agree w/ you.
And stores shouldn't be selling them early in the first place.
It's really bullshit that playing early results in a XBL ban - especially if you bought the damn thing legit.
It's been reported KMart has been selling them early. (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/kmart-sold-modern-warfare-3-early-copies-wind-up-on-ebay/)
I wonder who else will break the street date.
-
I remember back in the SNES days street dates really weren't adhered to. I remember distinctly wanting Mortal Kombat for my birthday, but it didn't come out until the day after. Much to my surprise, the game was already on shelves in Wal-Mart the weekend before "Mortal Monday"

So what's the deal with this game? I lost track of the Infinity Ward/Activision spat. Looking at Wikipedia shows it is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, is developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, and is published by Activision.
I thought Activision owned the name Call of Duty, Infinity Ward owned the name Modern Warfare, and Infinity Ward and Activision hated each other?
-
According to what was said, nobody mentioned banning. The journalist is inserting his own assumptions.

After the IW and Activision feud, 38 [of the 46] the Infinity Ward that was w/ West and Zampella left with them to form Respawn Entertainment. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respawn_Entertainment#Respawn_Entertainment)
They're at work on some new [unknown] shooter that'll be published by EA w/ the EA partners program - in which Respawn will KEEP the IP, no matter what.
While a few of the old IW is still w/ IW [i.e. Robert Bowling], the IW working on MW3 is not really the same Infinity Ward company we remember from COD1 to MW2....
-
I'm guessing that since most of the IW team left so early (I think it was before the halfway point of MW3's development), a lot of the work was picked up by Sledgehammer. For anyone who doesn't know, Sledgehammer is another Activision owned studio that was started when they poached Glen Schofield from Visceral (he was the creator and executive producer for Dead Space 1).
For the most part, MW3 is not by the same people that did MW1 and 2.

That couldn't have been said any better.
Though, it's still a COD title and a MW title, so...I think we're all still interested in seeing how MW3 will turn out...

That sucks. I loved MW and MW2. Infinity Ward was just really good at what they did. Now that they are a shell of themselves and the third installment isn't even done by them... it just sucks. Thanks Activision.

I think that's why most of us are VERY curious what the hell Respawn is actually up to...

Seriously...WTF?!?! :o
-
6000 copies worth over $500,000 dollars? Math seems off a bit.
And, retarded joystiq comments aside, I'd be willing to bet that someone fucked up and robbed the wrong truck here. Unless the French version of Gamestop is run by organized crime, I don't see how you'd move 6000 copies of this in a timely and profitable manner. You'd be infinitely better off robbing a cigarette truck.
-
If each is worth like $80... maybe? Doesn't Canada kinda gets fucked on the exchange rate with games? Maybe it's the same with Euros?
-
In Canada, it's not so much the exchange rate. It's more so that the retailers are just greedy. When the exchange rate was at par Canadians still usually paid anywhere from 10-50% more for the same good. Retailers' justification was that they do not want to constantly change prices based on the exchange rate because it would "confuse consumers." It's a bullshit excuse.
Regardless, this 'heist,' if you can call it one, is ridiculous. Like gpw said, there is no way to move those 6000 copies. Unless it was 6000 limited edition copies, the stolen goods will be worthless in a couple of months once the hype ends.

WTF? (http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/modern-warfare-3-to-get-20-pieces-of-dlc-over-nine-months/)
:o
Are they selling each map separate?
Or in map packs?
Or what?
-
Hahaha. I'm guessing weapons packs make up a fair portion.
-
Hahaha. I'm guessing weapons packs make up a fair portion.
I think they are trying to get people to look at DLC prices [normally say $15 for a map pack (usually containing 5 maps)], then instead force themselves to opt for the $50 COD Elite Premium Service, which will include all the DLC.
When's the MW3 Ultiamte Ed coming? :P
