I guess enough people bitched. (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=14430) Honestly though, doesn't pretty much everyone have a DVD player by now? Ive got a standalone, my Xbox can play them, my PS2 can play them, and my PC can play them. Truth be told, I've never used my consoles to play DVDs. Ever.
-
I don't mind having more. Right now I'm screwed because our DVD player and PS2 are in the living room and in the game room we only have the PC, the Gamecube, the Xbox, and the 360. But the 360 is hooked up to the computer monitor and I never got the remote for the Xbox, so if I want to use the computer and watch a DVD at the same time... can't. I wouldn't mind having another device in here that could play them.

I don't really care for getting DVD playback capability for the Wii. However, those that want to get DVD playback means that they might wait until next year before getting a Wii or something.

I like the idea that my console is capable of more than just playing games. I remember my Sega Saturn could play VCD's and that was a cherished feature; for a while it was my only CD player as well, so it served me well for music too. I have a few friends who didn't buy DVD players because their Xbox or PS2 can do the job. I sold my DVD player when I got my DVD drive, but that was mainly because the region limitations were disgusting me (I have a few DVD's from back home and they won't run on Region 1 players).
Speaking of region settings, my DVD drive says I can change my region a limited number of times (like twice I think), that's bullshit. Luckily I found a way to change my region through software alone.
-
Yea despite the region restriction on paper, my DVD drives have never blocked content from anywhere. Weird.

Wow I so don't care. Though I suppose it could make for a nice backup if my real Panasonic player died.

So, does this in mean in 2008, the Wii will come out w/ a Blu-Ray add-on or a HD-DVD add on?
-
No. Thats really far from what Nintendo wants. Besides, the Wii doesnt put out that kind of resolution anyway.

I think that would be like strapping a bazooka on an ant.

That would be kick-ass!

Won't the Wii cost more when it has the DVD-playing capabilities? Wasn't cost one of the reasons why DVD playback was nixed?
-
Yes and yes.

I think it would be a good excuse for them to charge more, but in real terms on a production of so many units it will be a matter of a few dollars.
