This will make some people happy. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-02-08-2k-games-announces-the-darkness-ii)

2K Games has announced sequel The Darkness II for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game arrives this autumn.

The sequel will not be made by The Darkness developer Starbreeze. Instead, Digital Extremes, developer of Dark Sector, will do the honours.

No Starbreeze... that killed any sort of interest I have for this.

Yeah, kills my interest too.  Fuck Dark Sector.  Those people don't deserve to be making this game.

I'm still going to cross my fingers and hold a little hope that it will be worthy, but I'm incredibly doubtful.

We knew long ago in 2009 that Starbreeze was NOT doing TD2... (http://www.overwritten.net/forum/index.php?topic=5511.0)

EDIT:
Since TD2 is coming to Windows, can we get Darkness 1 ported here?

Yes, D, but we didn't know who was making it.  Digital Extremes isn't exactly what you'd call a venerable developer.  The news is disappointing.  And no, for fuck's sake, of course we aren't going to get a PC port of the first game.  Why would anyone spend time and effort porting an old game that didn't sell onto a platform that wouldn't even sell that much?

2K Games is known for putting inferior companies in charge of doing a sequel - see Bioshock 2, for example. 2K Marin is nowhere in Irrational Boston's league.

Looks like a repeat here w/ Darkness. Damn shame - since Starbreeze seems to be one of the few companies who actually gets how to make a licensed product from some other medium (i.e. movie like Riddick; comic book like The Darkness) and turn it into an awesome game. One of the other companies I can probably think of is Rocksteady - who did Batman: AA.

I can't speak on The Darkness - but Riddick: Butcher Bay was amazing.

EDIT:
For those who played the Darkness 1 game - since there's no Starbreeze, who would you rather have seen do Darkness 2 and why?

I honestly can't say who I'd rather have done it.  Starbreeze games have a very consistently different feel to them.  It's hard to imagine anyone else nailing it quite the same way.  Really, I just wish Starbreeze was doing it.  If they fixed some of the issues with the first games and delivered as compelling a story in the second, it could have been one of the best games of this generation.  I still think the first was, despite its faults.

They should have had Epic do it. The first one was really lacking in dick jokes and homo eroticism.

Damn it.  If they're getting Mike back, I may have hope for this again.  He was so freaking good in the first.
