Not bullshit QTEs or that busywork crap they had in GTA on DS to start your car. I mean the stuff like Triple Triad in FFVIII (mentioned in the other thread which prompted this one) or the gambling games in the Yakuza series. Its nice to be able to "take a break" from the usual gameplay but to still be playing and making some kind of progress in that game.
Obviously this kind of thing doesn't fit into every game. I don't expect Marcus and Dom to drop everything and make out play poker or something. But you know what genre really needs this? MMOs. You can shoehorn damn near any minigame like that into the cities. Give players something to play against or with one another other than hitting each other with swords. Hell if those games are fun enough you might even get subscribers coming in just for them.

Fuck yeah, a lot of people talk shit about minigames, but I usually end up enjoying them, especially in RPGs.

What if there was a game three levels deep? We would probably need a powerful sedative.

Red Dead Redemption. Horseshoes and Liar's Dice? Yes please.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. I loved playing dice poker in The Witcher!
