It's not all that surprising. Sony is a big force in consumer electronics and everyone is jumping on the tablet bandwagon now. Looks kind of neat, but I would have absolutely no use for one.

I don't know why I had much grander expectations from Sony, like a Vaio brand of tablets to match with the P-series netbooks. The "Playstation" branding just makes it seem like a poorly conceived portable game console.

Where are people using the tablets they buy? I just got back yesterday from a Florida vacation and during that trip I did not see a single person with any sort of touch screen tablet. Not at the airports or on the planes, not sitting on a bench, not on a bus. Literally I saw zero iPads, Xooms, and Tabs.

Come to think of it, I have never seen anyone use a tablet anywhere besides the home. Even then it's just used as a mild entertainment device for casual games and youtube.

When I was on the train to Texas I saw a couple ipads. People were just playing scrabble or watching movies on it.
