I saw Casino Royale last night. Easily the best Bond movie since Goldeneye. I realize that's not saying much since Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day all sucked ass, but this one was truly a good one. I'm not sure I liked it more than Goldeneye though. Overall it's definately got a different feel than the Brosnan Bond movies... much grittier and less over-the-top.
Daniel Craig is a sweet Bond. Pretty badass and not very much like any other Bond before. I'd say he's closest to Timothy Dalton. He's very cold and calculating and has sort of a dry or sarcastic humor.
And Bond's car... The Aston Martin DBS is about the sexiest car I have ever seen. :-*
The opening theme was by Chris Cornell, which was unexpected. As much as I like Chris Cornell, I thought the song sucked pretty bad.
The movie started off freaking awesome. I mean I was riveted and loving every second. But then towards the last third or so of the movie it sort of... changed. I don't know what it was but the movie started really slowing down and it seemed like it had three endings. Like you know they whole quick wrap-up like everything is honkey-dorey and he has the girl and is basically on vacation. But then some more shit happens and it seems to end again sort of and then more shit happens. It felt stretched out a little too much.
I saw it on opening night and loved it.
My thoughts (possible mild spoilers):
The good:
- Craig might just be the best Bond since Connery. He was a total bad-ass, and his one-liners were funny without being corny.
- Eva Green was absolutely stunning.
- I initially thought having them play Texas Hold'em in the Casino was kind of lame, but it worked surprisingly well.
- The opening scene with the free-runner. Funny how the black guy would keep nailing the jumps every time whereas Bond would keep screwing up.
The bad:
- Not enough of the Aston Martin DBS... it was barely shown at all in the movie.
- Blatant product-placement... why is James Bond driving a Ford Mondeo?
Overall, definitely the best Bond movie I've seen in a long time, ranks right up there in my top 3 with From Russia With Love and For Your Eyes Only.

Haha. I noticed the plethora of FoMoCo products as well: Fords, Land Rovers, Jaguars, and of course the Aston Martins.

Don't for get the abundance of Sony products.. Most notably the Vaio. Since Sony owns MGM now.
And WHAT was up with that scene with Bond camping in the rain outside Walmart just for a PS3? Seriously now.

Lies, Bond would want a Wii. He'd use the controller + nunchuk to kill people for real.

that was the worst. Did any of you notice how in the security room at the hotel, Bond loaded a blu-ray disc to see what the cameras had recorded? That completely took me out of the movie for a few seconds
The ending did seem kind of dragged out, but still, awesome movie.
The funny part about is after he loaded the disc, the shot zoomed to what the cameras had recorded, and it was all grainy security camera style. no super-clear hi-def awesomeness there.
