Crazy shit (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2011/aug/08/london-riots-third-night-live). Seriously, what the fuck is going on in the world? It just never ends.
A map of the confirmed areas (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=207192798388318292131.0004aa01af6748773e8f7&msa=0&ie=UTF8&ll=51.536086,-0.056305&spn=0.39294,0.630341&z=10&source=embed).

Same thing that's been going on for years: People are stupid.
-
yeah, it's dumb, but there are underlying reasons for it all, of course. the government seems to be doing everything in it's power to enlarge the poverty divide - benefits and services are being massively cut, unemployment is on the rise - all while the PM takes a "budget" holiday in spain with his family, and flies out his tennis coach on a private jet.
i don't agree with the riots, but if you put the poorest, least educated people under pressure for long enough, something like this is bound to happen. at least it makes for entertaining news.

I'm going to London soon. Hopefully the rioting stops so I can still have fun.
I get unrest and protesting but this just seems more like the work of assholes with no cause but a cheap thrill. They even burned down a disc distribution warehouse that was the hub for 150 music labels. Hipsters everywhere are sad.
-
I thought the protests were over someone who got shot by police (for good reason, assuming the news was accurate). Yeah, our world is in sad shape, and quickly getting sadder, but this behavior only makes it worse, particularly for those on the wrong side of he "poverty divide".
-
I think the shooting was just an excuse more than anything, but yeah, that's what's been reporting as the catalyst. But clearly from a certain point it just turned into pointless insanity, with people looting and breaking shit just for the hell of it.
-
Yup, it is just an excuse for mayhem. These people don't give a damn about some gangster. They are just releasing their own frustration.

Did a piece on it:
http://blogs.tribune.com.pk/story/7439/beyond-riots-how-social-media-helped-london/
Quoted Beo, interviewed a game developer who made a game to raise awareness, and posted a few videos of people who were victimized -- though the internet helped them out. Give it a look. Thanks.

Not that it matters, but I don't actually live in London!
-
Where do you live anyway?
-
It's pretty retarded; just give people a reason to break shit. Reminds me of when we had the G20 last year in Toronto with some people going crazy and fucking up the peaceful protests.
