Maldita Castilla (http://www.locomalito.com/juegos_maldita_castilla.php) is a game like Ghouls n Ghosts, but based on the demo not nearly so killer hard. Its pretty fun.
8-Bit Commando (http://www.2dengine.com/commando/) is like Contra, but again doesn't strike me as being as hard. At least not in the demo.
