Title: Humble Voxatron Debut
Post by: idolminds on Monday, October 31, 2011, 02:45:41 PM
Another one! (http://www.humblebundle.com/)

This time is a debut of Voxatron, really an alpha. But its pay what you want, charity, the usual. And it may end up with more games along the way. Theres a picture floating around from someone digging around in the Steam files and they found what appears to be this bundle with Binding of Issac in it. So we'll see if that pans out.

this is much better than i was expecting. excellent style and really decent retro gameplay - very interested to see what happens with this.

Huh, interesting. No Steam or Desura keys this time. Oh well, full game is under 1MB. You could back this up to floppy if you wanted.

Also I agree with beo. Its really quite fun. Does seem kinda "early" but with this as a base it'll be cool to see how it builds.

Controls are...different. Gonna set up joy2key to get some proper directional shooting action going on. But its a lot of fun and seeing the arenas get more and more destroyed as you play is awesome.

Also, shoot the base of a tree enough to "chop" it down. Its awesome.

Awesome, I was wondering if this game was ever going to see the light of day.  Purchased!

The Binding of Isaac and Blocks That Matter have been added to the bundle. Pay more than the current average to get them (or get them automatically if you already bought the bundle)

Voatron:  Use WASD to move around and the num pad as your directional buttons for shooting.  Ten times better.

Blocks That Matter is a pretty awesome game as well. I'm going to play it a bunch.

Also last night I was checking out the custom levels in Voxatron. Look for one called "Greenland" or something like that. someone recreated the Super Mario Bros 3, World 1 world map as a level.

Voxatron got an update.
Quote
New in 0.1.4:

Added: Configurable controls
Added: Mouse aiming crosshair (well, actually it's a single voxel)
Fixed: Drifting character bug
Fixed: BBS LIST incomplete / crashing on last page
Fixed: Sound switching off permanently after failing once

The controls are now in one of 3 modes:
- keyboard
- keyboard+mouse
- joystick

You can only use one mode at once, and each one can be customised separately.

The default mode is keyboard, so if you like playing with ASDW+mouse or joystick, you'll need to switch it back on in the options->controls menu.

Setting up a 360 controller now is much easier, and makes the game WAY better.

And if you haven't done so, play Blocks That Matter. It's puzzley and fun. You can simply reach the exit to pass each level or you can go for the two special level completions. The obvious one is grabbing the chest, aka The Block That Matters, and then finishing the level. This displays each level as a special block from a multitude of games. Really neat. You can also earn a star on the level by leaving while carrying as many blocks as possible. You'll start trying to minimize the number of blocks you leave behind. Note, you don't have to do both of these at once and they might even be mutually exclusive on some levels. You can always replay a level to go for one or the other.

How do you update Voxatron?  I'm not finding anything on the game's official site or the game options.

You know, apart from Gish, it kind of feels like they're scrapping the bottom of the barrel there.

Well they are the previous games from the guy making Voxatron, so it makes sense. I've actually wanted Zen Puzzle Garden for a while now.
