Story (http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/720663/unreal-engine-4-to-be-revealed-in-2012-according-to-epics-mark-rein/)
Normally not that interesting on its own (well, I still find it interesting), but there may be some hidden meanings in here. Why would Epic reveal UE4 this year? Either they have made some serious improvements for it and it still runs on current consoles....or its a hint that some next gen system is going to be announced. I doubt they are going to show off UE4 and have the only thing that can run it be PCs, plus how much could they actually do vs UE3 on current gen systems?
So yeah, E3 might be interesting this year.

Always interesting to see what Epic is up to w/ Engines.
Well - Epic, Crytek, DICE, and Id.

Holy crap.
"So dude, did you get that new apartment simulator?"
"Fuck yeah, man, but I had to get a new rig. All the detail on that bedspread was too much for my old one."

Wow, that's incredible! Did you see the chrome on the lamp base, the shadows, and the way the light reflected off the back of the IKEA-looking bookshelf? It was completely realistic.
I haven't seen a tech demo that blew me away like that since GSC Game World originally revealed the engine they were working on for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.
Then again, you have to wonder how many man-hours went into creating this demo. What's important is that tools are created that help automate most of the work. Otherwise it will take five or six years to make a single game.

Yeah, that was my first thought too. And honestly, I imagine as soon as you stick an animated character in there, it loses its photorealistic quality. We never get quite as close with character models as with environments.
