Title: Republique
Post by: PyroMenace on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 12:13:04 PM
I almost posted this in the iOS thread but it looked cool enough to deserve its' own. Started by a kickstarter fund, its a stealth survival game being developed for phones called Republique (http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/4/10/2938289/ryan-payton-republique). Looking at the trailer the best comparison I can make with it is with Ghost Trick. I don't think you have direct control over the main character, instead you use security cameras and computers to distract guards and guide the character through levels, kind of like how you manipulate objects on Ghost Trick to progress a scene or puzzle. Anyway, looks neat.

That reminds me of The Experiment (http://www.gamespot.com/the-experiment/), but with more story and a better budget.

That looks pretty awesome. Don't know if I'll kickstart it, but I'll totally get it when its done.

So this has been on track to fail miserably on Kickstarter. Interest seemed to die after the initial rush and it just wasn't going to get funded.

However they announced they are now also planning a PC/Mac version. They lost some backers because of it (even though iOS seems to still be the lead platform), but now the pledges are coming in. Check it out:

Yea that's what I have been hearing through one of the podcasts I listen to, it might have been the bombcast. But they said that its due to it being from a guy not many people know about (just that he apparently helped work on Halo and MGS), it being a new IP game which a lot of stuff on gaming in Kickstarter that has been successful has had some nostalgia to some old franchise related to it, and then theres the fact that they are asking for half a million dollars, which is too much.

Yeah, thats a lot to raise without some serious exposure and name recognition.

Holy crap, scroll up and look at that spike! Why? They got David Hayter and Jennifer Hale to do voices. (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/486250632/republique-by-camouflaj-logan/posts/220041) I don't know if this will save the kickstarter, though. They are still under 50% funded with just a week to go. But that is quite a spike, so as news spreads they might get close.

Sad thing is if they had all this info lined up at launch it would have made it for sure. They did mention that since the KS started they got a bunch of funding offers from various publishers so I'm pretty sure the game is getting made either way.

As of almost 9 this morning, it has roughly 13k more to go, 2 hours ago it needed 25k more, at this pace they should make it but man its crazy how close to the line its going to be.
