And Keeb, the only consolation I have at this point is that the Ducks are putting in some serious golf time right now.

I'm not sure if I've posted about this before here or not, but I really, really hate Vancouver area hockey fans. Like, moreso than any other fanbase of anything ever pretty much.  Like, I won't even get involved in most conversations because it's too frustrating to hear some dumbasses just regurgitate some snippet that they heard from someone else, especially when it comes to the Luongo vs. Schneider.  There's room there for an interesting debate on the merits of trading Luongo, clearing up some room, and hoping that Schneider can fair just as well as a starter as he can being a backup goalie...but it's amazing how many people don't know anything about anything and still scream out "trade him!  We can get an all star forward for that money"!!! No, motherfucker, because there's a no-trade clause in the contract.  Luongo would have to approve any trade before it could be made, AND that's assuming that you're going to find someone willing to take on his 12 year, $65 million-ish contract.  It's huge, and considering the calibur of goalie you're receiving, it's not that bad (compared to most monster contracts), but you pretty much have to have a long term strategy and built a team around it.  Obviously, no one has.  Chances are, you'd have to take a far worse deal in exchange in order to clear the other team's cap/long term burden OR hope the league approves the Canuck's subsidizing his contract for the other team - which I don't THINK counts against the cap, but is pretty retarded regardless...if the league allows it...which they probably won't because they view the contract as cap circumvention anyways.

And even then, you still have to pay Schneider, and he's going to be asking for quite a bit if you're willing to restructure your organization for him and trade off your proven, starting, multiple -Vezina nominated, gold medal winning goalie away to clear room for him.  You're probably not clearing that much room, OR you're signing him on a short term contract which could leave you with no tending prospects three years down the road. And he's not at all proven really as anything more than a really, really good backup. It could work out great, or he could end up being injury prone or (more likely) being one of the many many many goalies in the history of the sport who just cooled off and never came back (DiPietro, Raycroft, a million other dudes). Peeps need to just shut up.

I actually think it wouldn't be that hard to get rid of Luongo. His wife and child live in Florida I believe with her family so he could easily be persuaded to waive his NTC and go to either the Lightning or the Panthers. This yields so many benefits for Luongo like proximity to his family and CONSIDERABLE less pressure for him to win. Both teams could do with a goalie of Luongos caliber especially Tampa Bay as the lack of one is probably the main reason they were unable to get a playoff spot. The contract isn't that big a problem. He's in his third year of it so teams would make that trade. Look at Philly and Bryzgalov; Luongo is way better than Bryz too. Also, the Panthers have a history of making some lopsided trades with Vancouver in the latters favor.

Yeah, I think he'd be down with a Florda team, specifically Tampa. They have a talented team, and are in need of a goal-tending solution, but I don't know what they have for cap-room.  Any team trading for Luongo is taking on his contract, which extends through something like 2020-2021 at an average of roughly 5.5 million a season. And the no-trade clause carries over (I think).  As much as Luongo may be down and it would fix a lot of Tampa's problems, they might not be able to swing it.   I guess they could clear it by getting rid of Lecavalier, but the Canucks won't take him: both H and Kesler are signed long term and they're not picking up the bill on Lecavalier's contract in order to make him a third-liner.

But Bryzgalov is a really good point.
