And comments like this are why us gamers are horribly stereotyped. So what if he didn't get all of his facts right? Perhaps one should blame Nintendo for not doing more to avoid brand confusion?

Wow, what a fail. What happened to journalists actually doing research before writing articles? Wii U is a new console system not an accessory for the Wii. In addition, the controller is called the Wii U GamePad, not the Wii U; Wii U is the system, Wii U GamePad is the controller for the Wii U, understand? Also, the 2 games mentioned are not really games per se but more like mini games within the NintendoLand game (yet no mention of NintendoLand in the article).

Wii's attach rate is currently just a little higher than 8. That is absolutely a respectable attach rate, and any commenters trying to make ridiculous claims about the Wii need to check their facts before they embarrass themselves.

"kid titles like pikmin 3" " Will Nintendo's forthcoming Wii U controller breathe new life into its aging Wii console?".......Pikmin isn't a "kid title" they probably wouldn't get past level 2, and this new controller isn't breathing new life into anything, it's a whole new console.

But Pikmin IS a kid's game. I played the original as a kid, and got all 30 ship parts and everything. The thing is, being made for children doesn't make it a bad game, and certainly not an easy one - after all, just about everything on the NES (SMB, Castlevania, Megaman) was made for kids, and those games were tough as nails. You're confusing "games made for children" for "games made for casuals".

Another nail in Nintendos coffin, their spam of useless gimmicks confuses people.
me as a gamer dont care for underpowered antiquated hardware and kiddy shiny games, most gamers dont care for anymore kiddy zeldas, mario or whatever shovelware games Nintendo makes these days.
And casual gamers cant distinguish one crapy gimmick from another..
WiiU, more like WiiCrap

Sales of what? Consoles that what they sold, not games.
What matters in this industry is attachment rate

Mayael, you confuse core games with casual games.
Nintendo had zero inovation, ZERO, the waggle wiimote was a gimmick and that why it only appealed to casuals, most of the core gamers used the classic gamepad or had an option for one, even games from Nintendo.
Sony and Microsoft made the Kinect and the Move to appeal to teh casuals, nothing more, just extra money.
Statistically Wii had the LOWEST attach rate, with all the 90 millions wii sold, overwhelming majority of people used it as Wii Sports consoles or Wii balance board console, when xbox had attach rate of 6 games, Wii had 2.
Innovation means that people actually use the hardware, the waggle is long forgotten.
if you call gimmicks innovation then kinect is a much better one, at least its used for since, building robots, 3D scanning and ton of other...

You have a narrow minded view of things. Nintendo has a proven track record of being revolutionary and trend setting. The Playstation Move and XBox Kinect were direct results of Nintendo's innovation. There was obviously potential profits to be had there, or else they wouldn't have followed suit. Maybe you don't care for Nintendo and their products; but there are a great many that do. You may decry Zelda and Mario as being "kiddy," but I doubt those title's developers would waste their time listening. Indeed, most gaming reviews routinely rank Nintendo's flagship titles as some of the best of the year.
I applaud Nintendo for trying to do something different. I, personally, can only play so many FPS type games. And graphics are great, but in the end graphics will always take a back seat to game play and fun.

Dude... Do some research on these things before you try to post news about them. The Wii U is an entirely new console, not an add-on for the Wii. The controller you're referring to is called the Wii U GamePad. Pikmin 3 isn't meant to be a "kid title," it's a "people title," for everyone, regardless of age.
I don't know if you post about video games a lot, but if you do, I can only hope that you actually research them, unlike with this piece of writing.

This is ****ing hilarious.
While the new branding may confuse casual buyers who don't do their homework , it shouldn't confuse a single journalist for a second.
I'm personally more insulted that you called Pikmin 3 a kid's game when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

One of several possibilities:
- He does not have a Wii, does not play games, and therefore doesn't notice the high resolution graphics capabilities of the WiiU CONSOLE.
- He was not listening to Nintendo when they stated several times at E3 that WiiU was a new console and not a controller for the old Wii.
- WiiU console being backwards compatible with Wii controllers and balance board confused his delicate brain.
- He is trolling Nintendo and having a good time reading comments.
I think the latter.

Before people rush to condemnation, this is being written after the author personally used the controller. Perhaps the failure to distinguish the U as an entirely new console is Nintendo's?

Wow, this is a failure for both CNN and Nintendo. I knew this was going to happen when they named the console Wii U. It isn't a different enough name for mainstream people to understand that it is a whole new console and not a new controller.
