Huh. That's certainly unexpected. I don't really know what to think... but it did bring a tiny bit of nostalgia. Could be fun.

I never played the original, but seeing that Apogee logo go from pixelated to high-res made me all happy inside.

Hour long Quakecon panel on the new RoTT game:
During the panel they actually show this image:

They say they're doing actual old school fps map design, with colored keycards and all.
A lot of people say they want to do old school level design, but they don't. They don't do it. They're afraid. And people keep asking for it. And we're doing it, fuck it. You know, 'cause people want it. And the people who don't get it, maybe they'll get it, or fuck em. 'Cause this is what we're all about, old school level design with a new school flow.

I am suddenly much more interested. Anybody that does a panel and says fuck people who don't get our game... they've got my vote.

Interesting and... appropriate.

I'm confused. Did they make that much money off ROTT 2013? Interceptor, last I heard, was a bunch of people scattered across the world. Really, a fan mod team that met across the internet, and got the blessing of Apogee and found a publisher. Are 3D Realms and Apogee worth so little that they could afford to buy them?

More details on acquiring:

In short - the company SDN Invest (that is actually behind Interceptor) actually bought 3D Realms and Apogee Software portion (the dev's), but not Apogee LLC portion (the publisher).
