If you said Jonathan Blow, you'd agree with CBS News! (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505270_162-57491813/video-game-developer-designs-thoughtful-new-game/)
It goes downhill from there.
-
My guess would've been JOHN CARMACK.
-
Really? REALLY?!
-
I'm LOL'ing so hard at that article.
Now, here's some OTHER high profile famous dev's:
Ken Levine; Warren Spector; Richard Garriott; Peter Molyneux; Sid Meier; Will Wright & Chris Avellone.

Absolutely.
More names:
Miyamoto; Kojima; Sakaguchi; & Mikami.
-
I would say Carmack as well.
-
Hmm, who would be the most infamous?
Romero?
The dude responsible for the Team Bondi abuse fiasco? I don't even remember his name.
-
Derek Smart
-
I remember the first time I heard Warren Spector's name, I heard it "War Inspector" haha
-
I think I was there. :P
-
I think I was there. :P
Haha yep ;D You were so perplexed by my reaction "What the hell kind of name is War Inspector?!" The look on your face was priceless ;D
-
Derek Smart
beat me to it

What about Denis Dyack?
-
I've heard of Braid, but not Jonathan Blow. I guess the author was just being lazy. I don't know how you could say a guy that made Braid a game most people have never played is more famous than John Carmack or John Romero, the guys that made a game that everyone played and was talked about extensively in mass media. Or Sid Meier, whose name is actually plastered on his games.
-
Just an attempt at mainstream attention for an article about a game. Too much though.
-
Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert have had their names up there! They were THE name in point & click adventures. I remember knowing their names since before I even had my own PC.
I guess David Perry used to be famous.
I like Randy Pitchford. He just seems to have an awesome attitude in general. His appearances in media and conferences make him kinda mainstream famous.
-
John Carmack? Tim Schafer? Sid Meier?
This guy would have something to say about that:

Is that Richard Garriott? haha He's the guy behind the Ultima series, right?
-
Yeah. He took his role a little *too* seriously.

which reminds me that this fun to go back and read occasionally:
