Title: What game should Pyro play next?
Post by: PyroMenace on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, 01:17:26 PM
Some pretty big ones are on this list, but I own all of these and I need to make a decision.

I've allowed users to change votes if games come down to a tie so the tie can be broken.

I put Fez because its fun and you can probably get through it relatively quickly compared to others on the list.

I was torn between Bioshock Infinite and XCOM. Both excellent games but I picked XCOM because it's a more immediate experience, whereas Bioshock is a little story-heavy and needs a bit more dedication to reall appreciate.

XCOM Enemy Unknown is awesome. I'm still playing it, in fact.

I wonder who voted Civ5?

I wonder.

I voted for Mass Effect 3, but I just bought Dark Souls so maybe play that and we can talk about it.

Dark Souls it is.

So I played a handful of hours yesterday, got the this Tauren demon that I couldn't get passed. Man I'm totally loving it but I still wind up with some frustration in some spot and repeating areas for a good while. Anyway I had to stop even though I wanted to kill that bastard. After sleeping on it now I really want to play some more.

Bump. Reset the poll, removed Dark Souls, and added Halo 4 since I left it out on accident.

What's next dudes?

I said Mass Effect. If you're in the series I'd say it's worth finishing despite everything said about the ending.

Yea, thats actually one I prefer to play on consoles, even though I have all 3 on PC the no controller support kills it for me. I did actually start playing it months back but stopped due to other distractions.

I went with Bioshock Infinite.  It was a hard choice, though.  Don't miss Fez either.  I have yet to play ME3 myself.

Mass Effect 3 really is an amazing game.  Also, don't fuck around - play Vanguard.

Bioshock: Infinite.
My GOTY for 2013, so far.

I voted DS3. I assume that stupid door sound bug has been squashed by now, and I really liked it. Some super cool stuff in there, and I enjoyed the fact that it switched up the formula and tried something different (even though a lot of people felt that was a knock against it). Plus right now I'm gorging on lots of horror stuff. Movies, books, what have you. Not so much sci-fi horror, but I could go for some of that too.

I recommend DS3 as well. It's well-paced and balances action/thrill sequences. Plus, if you enjoy co-op, it's great in DS3!

I voted Dead Space 3 as well. They did try to make it more action heavy, but the roll and cover systems can be ignored for the most part, and then it controls and feels exactly like Dead Space 2. The story goes a little weird, but the ride is worth it if you were a fan of the other 2 games.

I honestly don't get the disappointment with the story. I really like where they're taking it. It kinda nicely closes the initial arc but opens the potential for some truly crazy shit later. And I mean it could get really dark if they wanted it to. Which would be awesome.

There was nothing really dark or scary about Dead Space 3. It just felt more straight-forward.
It's just a more action-y game, TBH.
Dead Space 3 was pretty damn good, even with its change in direction - but, it's nowhere as amazing as Bioshock: Infinite, IMHO.

My issue with the story is mainly that it felt creepier when it was all shrouded in mystery and cryptic clues. They brought so much to light that it was no longer a mystery. Fear of the unknown worked well in the first 2 games, but is sort of lacking in the third. The actual events and characters I didn't mind.

It also needed more bosses.

Played a good bit today and nope, the bug is still there. On the EA forums the thread is 26 pages long of people complaining about it with no answers or solutions at all. If its not fixed now then they have probably moved on, thanks EA, you really care.

Jesus Christ. Well, that's EA for you. They never issued a single patch for the bugs in Alice: Madness Returns on the PC. The game is literally unplayable without a controller because you can't use one of the commands on a keyboard. Assign whatever button you like, it just won't work. The dev team was never able to get them to greenlight a patch. They just don't care.

With both Battlefield Bad Company 2 and BF3 there was a widely known bug where if you had a popular onboard sound card the game would eventually start looping sound and crash.  This affected a TON of people.  EA never recognized it or patched it.  I ended up buying a cheap Sound Blaster.

True. Experienced that bug on my brother's PC with both games. No idea why EA never addressed it.

As someone who just finished Dishonored, you need to play Dishonored.

Hell of a game.

Also highly recommend Dishonored - my pick for 2012 GOTY.

Well, since I just ordered a used copy of Dishonored from GameFly, I would suggest that. We can compare notes, make in-jokes about the game that everyone whose already played it forgot months ago. It'll be just like old times.

I was wondering why no one was voting in the poll... it was locked by mistake, its fixed but I guess it doesnt matter, Dishonored seems like the winner.

I'll be in that with you. Found a GOTY version on sale and it was finally cheap enough to grab as I had a gift card. I'm actually quite impressed with it so far. It's a bit more... literary than I imagined it would be. Like there are some pretty great world-building concepts in play, they really thought things out and gave it a really interesting sort of gravity. I was expecting something just sort of generically steampunk with some cool art, but they really used that to build something cool. Definitely more than just a gimmick or art direction/theme idea.
