Title: DX11? OpenGL? Pfft...AMD announces Mantle API

I'm so confused! (http://www.techspot.com/news/54134-amd-launches-mantle-api-to-optimize-pc-gpu-performance.html)

Apparently open so nvidia wont be left out, but it will probably take time to implement. I don't really know what to make of this...we need to hear from The Carmack!

Whoa, whoa - WTF is going on here in the PC gaming world?

It's like WAR is being brought towards Microsoft on all fronts:
Valve has Steam OS aiming at Windows OS + SteamMachines aimed at XBox consoles;
and now Mantle API is aiming at DirectX API.

Yep.

Basically, DX12 + Vulkan (Next-Gen Open GL) (http://anandtech.com/show/9038/next-generation-opengl-becomes-vulkan-additional-details-released) are both low-level API's - and they're going to be doing similar things that Mantle was doing + attempting.
Hell, Vulkan even has some Mantle code with it. (http://www.anandtech.com/show/9390/the-amd-radeon-r9-fury-x-review/12)
