Also, Gears of War 4 is out now.
Today we're excited to announce that Microsoft Studios has acquired the rights to the “Gears of War” franchise from Epic Games, including rights to all existing and future games, entertainment experiences and merchandise.
In addition, we are excited to announce that Black Tusk Studios in Vancouver, BC will take over development of the “Gears of War” franchise
Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production at Epic Games on the “Gears of War” franchise, will join Microsoft and play a key studio leadership role at Black Tusk on the development of the franchise going forward.

Bleh.
-
It's more or less just a formality at this point.
-
I actually wouldn't mind seeing more Gears of War games, even if they come more often. I'm just not sure what they can do with the story unless they reboot it and rewrite it so it can span more games.
Despite there being tons of cover-based shooters out there, Gears has always felt a bit unique to me. I guess it's the bouncing from cover to cover that felt almost mandatory in player vs player matches, but translated well into horde matches as well. The fact that you're fighting (mostly) cool looking monsters instead of generic soldiers helped a bit too.
-
I'm surprised MS didn't own it already. It's an iconic Xbox franchise.

I recently pick up GoW3 but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Bluesnews - Some details on the upcoming Gears of War 4 PC port from Mike Rayner, The Technical Director of The Coalition. (https://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&boardid=1&threadid=173371)
"Our focus on PC is to deliver a highly optimised, customisable experience first and foremost," Rayner tells us.
"Support for v-sync tearing has recently come to UWP [Universal Windows Platform] and we will be able to offer proper unlocked frame-rate support that gamers expect on day one. With Unreal Engine 4 and our own custom modifications, we can take much better advantage of multiple CPU cores, alleviating the game from being CPU-bound and allowing more room for the GPU to shine with enhanced visual quality or higher framerates. Single-player will not be locked to 30fps on PC."
Our analysis of the Gears of War E3 stage demo shows a rock-solid 30fps presentation at full 1080p resolution. The demo was confirmed by The Coalition as running on Xbox One hardware, and it looks as though the developers are repurposing console features in intriguing ways for the PC version.
Rayner also listed "a few items of note" the team are adding to the PC version. In his own words:
Dynamic resolution support (any resolution will be supported with a sensible dynamic field of view - including ultra-wide).
Increased texture resolution (up to 4K resolution for select texture groups).
A benchmark mode.
Full keyboard/mouse input remapping (including cover/run and roll split).
Far more comprehensive video settings.
"Today we sit at 28 different settings and we're thinking of ways to add more for people to really have full control," Rayner tells us. "Along with more settings, we're putting extra time into making it clear what impact a setting will have on GPU/CPU/VRAM so there is a clear correlation between a setting change and its performance impact."

Eurogamer / Digital Foundry = Gears of War 4 Face-Off b/t PC and X1. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-gears-of-war-4-face-off)
TL;DR - Digital Foundry calls it a technical masterpiece on BOTH platforms.
-
I updated the title because it was way out of date. I really shouldn't make these thread if I'm too lazy to update them lol.
Also, I've got digital codes for Gears 1, 2, 3, and Judgement for Xbox 360 to give away. All of them are backwards compatible so you can play them on Xbox One as well. They were a preorder bonus for Gears 4, but I already have them all. First come first serve.
-
Actually, I'd love those if you haven't already given them away.
-
Yeah, let K-Man have them. I was going to say I haven't played 3 or Judgment, but I'm not really a big Gears fan. He'll probably get more enjoyment out of those. I never even finished 2.
-
Ok, sending them to K-man.
-
Man, I sincerely appreciate this.
-
No problem, man
