If you love MetroidVania style games and punishing difficulty, do yourself a favour and grab this (http://store.steampowered.com/app/255070/).
It's a classic 2D sidescroller with 3D rendered characters but the combat feels more like a fighting game. It is frantic!
Here's a Destructoid review. (http://www.destructoid.com/review-abyss-odyssey-277987.phtml)
And here's a Let's Play:

Looks pretty cool. The art style is wonderful. Might have to check that out!

This game popped up on XBLA a few days ago. They're selling it for $10, which when new, means they don't expect great sales. May be a bargain. I'll grab the trial version at some point, if I can ever tear myself away from AC4. It does look intriguing.

I finally tried this. I couldn't play it for more than 10 minutes. It's a shamefully subpar effort, at least on the Xbox. Rayman Legends sets the bar for how sidescrollers need to perform on this hardware. Even the better indies like Dust: An Elysian Tail do the needed rock-solid 60 fps. A stuttering 30 fps will never do. It doesn't even look good when standing still. Bleh!

Stuttering? Seriously? That is bad. Practically inexcusable on a console.
It runs flawlessly on PC, solid 60fps when I have vsync on (which I rarely do).

I'm guessing they just didn't put in the effort into this port, perhaps because of the older hardware on its way out. A quick and easy port, using some sluggish middleware?
