What's wrong with people? 55K raised for a potato salad.

I don't understand it either. On one hand ha ha funny joke. On the other hand you all just gave a dude a years salary to make potato salad.
-
This is far from the only example of such a thing happening. And I too agree that it makes no sense.

We have an obsession with the ridiculous lately, it seems to me. It can be funny at times, but somehow seems to have carried on too far. Just because a dinosaur has lasers on it no longer makes it funny, at least to me, and this seems to be an extension of that mentality. Or something. I don't know.
To be fair, though, the guy is being awesome and giving to charity, at least according to that article. So in the end I call it a win.

Too bad raising money for charity is explicitly against KS rules. But KS didn't stop it because I guess any publicity is good for them.

Well, there is no guarantee that he will donate anything to charity despite what he says. He is not obliged to do so. But if that's what he intends to do, good for him.

I told the guys on IRC about this.
Zach Danger Brown is actually the son of one of the Ophthalmologist I work with. Just started talking about the potato salad kickstarter during a surgery, and he says "Oh yeah, that's my son, Zach".
Just thought it was kind of funny, small world I guess.
