The survival horror adventure is divided into four installments, which see anti-bioterrorist agents Claire Redfield and Moira Burton attempt to escape from a detention facility teeming with monstrosities.

The episodes will be available piecemeal for $5.99 or for $24.99 as a season pass.
Upon completion of the season, a boxed retail version will be sold with added content for $39.99.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is coming to PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC in early 2015.

Awful trend.  I will not support it.  That will be easy in this case.

Considering that the RE series is relatively tainted now from RE6, I don't see that idea winning many people over.

I like that they announced a complete season as a single retail box with extra content. Essentially telling everyone "Don't buy this shit individually, we will make you regret it."

That would have made sense if it was a digital-only release, like The Walking Dead and A Wolf Among Us.

It looks like Capcom are learning the hard way by trying to reinvent the wheel.

Telltale released the boxed versions of their games after each respective season was complete e.g. Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit, Back to the Future, etc.

Revelations series is NOT developed like the main RE's have been (since RE4 and newer).
The Main RE games have gotten more action-esque and less horrific with each [block-buster] iteration since RE4.

RE: Revelations is supposedly more like the OLDER RE's (before RE4) with more of an emphasis on survival-horror elements + gameplay.
That was the point of them recently splitting the series like this.
Hopefully, Rev 2 continues in this direction.

Yep, Capcom pretty much confirmed what I was saying above...

Kotaku -> Capcom clarifies differences b/t their RE: Revelations series + the actual numbered Resident Evil games (http://kotaku.com/capcom-explains-the-difference-between-resident-evil-an-1637148095/all)

For years now, the main Resident Evil games have been getting bigger and bigger. They're still scary, sure, but they're less traditional survival horror and more action game. That's where Revelations comes in.

"You're right to say that the numbered Resident Evil games are more action-oriented," said Resident Evil: Revelations 2 producer Michiteru Okabe. "They're aimed at a wide, mass audience."

Continuing, he added, "The Resident Evil: Revelations games, however, are aimed at long-time RE fans who want a more traditional, survival horror experience."

That's pretty smart on Capcom's part. Give the numbered Resident Evil games the widest appeal possible, but make the Revelations games for the long-time survival horror fans.
