A sad end. (http://www.newsobserver.com/1419/story/518014.html)

Sad....or funny? You decide!

TEH FEEREEDOM OF CHOICE!

Yea I heard about that yesterday and was like wow... those cops seemed to have shot the kid with no good reason, but then again, we don't know exactly what happened there.
-
Yeah, probably won't know until much later. Either way... fucking depressing.
All I can say is I hope nobody sings Bob Marley at my funeral. Oh, and this is going to be some huge shit if the guy's dad is a wrongful death attorney.
-
You are right, we don't know what exactly happened, but I cops tend to cover for each other...
-
In the cops' defense, he had a previous conviction for assault (unarmed), and they had (probably bullshit) reports that he would be armed. (They also expected to find weapons at his home, which they didn't. And they killed his dog.)
"No one is above the law, and no one is beneath its protection," [District Attorney Ben David] said.
Change 'beneath' to 'within' and I'd agree. This tactless, trigger-happy bullshit has to stop.
-
I found another source on it. It seems to expand the story a whole lot.

Um... they seem to be the same?
edit:
Invited the writer of the article to have a look at our thread. :P

Haha, oh wow. I read the story on IGN and I think I got confused, as it pointed to a crappy source that basically said "police shot a man holding a controller. More details when they come".
-
Sounds like a bunch of bright cops- I'm glad we don't train our law enforcement to tell the difference between a Playstation controller and a gun.
-
I'm not saying this case is justified, but I can see things from a cops point of view. You go to a place to catch a perp suspected of robbery. Hes had trouble before, and you happen to have dug up a picture of him and his buddies holding firearms. You suspect he may be armed when you arrive. Open the door and hes got *something* in his hand. It look vaguely like a pistol. You've got less than one second to decide if its something harmless or if this dude is going to shoot you in the face. I know I'd be going for a "shoot first ask later", but thats why I'm not a cop.
-
Yeah, but here's my take- the dude isn't going to be pointing the controller at the cops. The only way they would shoot is if they felt that they were in some sort of immediate danger, cops can't shoot unless this is the case. If he is just holding it by his side, the cops should yell at him to drop it.
But, obviously, I have no idea what actually happened, so this may not be anywhere close to the scenario.

I suspect he wasn't make any face-shooting gestures with a Playstation controller, so they have no excuse for being in such a rush.

haha.

I dont know about you, but I can move a gun from my side to face level and ready to fire that quick.
Like I said, it doesnt make it right, just I can see why they'd be edgy. Besides, who answers the door holding a game controller?
-
uhhh I would if it were wireless... it could happen when playing a PS3 with a wireless controller etc etc.
Besides how do we even know he was holding the controller? The only living witnesses to this are the cops themselves and people are willing to do desperate things when it comes evading to jail time.
Also again I think we give too much leeway to law enforcers. They took that job knowing the risks, and knowing what it takes. Innocent lives are innocent lives.
-
Why are we bothering to conjecture on something all of us collectively know jack shit about? There's no way in hell any of us can say whether or not it was justified, and bothering to do so is a giant waste of time.
-
But it is amusing.
-
Is it? IS IT?!

That kitty has really cute eyes.

Kitties don't say kupo.

Not half as quick as half a dozen officers with their weapons already trained on you can move their index fingers 90 degrees, I bet.
-
I cry bullshit. Have you ever even fired a gun, Wind?

In that case, I challenge you....to a duel!

As a matter of fact yes - time was when I used to sharpshoot. (But I don't think it matters here.)

Exactly.

This reminds me of a movie where Tom Selleck holding a hair dryer is shot in his house by a coked-up dirty cop. The cop had the wrong address. Not saying the cop in the real incident was bad or wrong, because that would be just conjecture. The facts just reminded me of the movie. Going to imdb now . . .
Edit: The movie is An Innocent Man (http://imdb.com/title/tt0097579/).
