My roommate is a waitress at Outback and while the money is good and makes me plenty jealous, the shit she has the deal with pretty much makes up for that. Today she had a bunch of stiff tips and tables that told her how awful of a waitress she is. I think shes been crying all day. I got home from work and she was in bed, but she just got up and her eyes and nose are all red. I offered to console her but she wanted to be kept alone. Makes me sad, I love her to death, and this isnt the first time its happened. In fact there was a time where it got so bad she had a hysterical reaction and I ended up having to take her to the hospital. I sometimes worry about her, she works soo freaking hard everyday, with her job, her classes, and a bazillion other little jobs she does for her teachers and everything, she piles on alot of stress, makes me look like chicken shit. Anyhow, people are fucking dicks, ya know.

Service is a tough industry to work in. People will treat you like shit because they think they are above you. For me, I don't piss off the person that gets my food before I see it.

I will only ever complain about food in one restaurant, where I'm a regular and I know essentially all the kitchen staff... but they rarely fuck up my food anyway. Outside of that, shit, I'm too scared to go to chinese food places because I'm scared they'll hate on my cracker ass and give me the cat.

I have never let people do that kind of shit to me at any job without me saying something to them about it(retail and the one food service job I've had) and I'm surprised I've never gotten fired for some of the stuff I've said to customers who thought they should be dicks. Food service people have to deal with dicks the most though, hungry, impatient people aren't fun to work around.

Yeah... this is why I tip really high. My first girlfriend's mother worked several jobs as a waitress so I guess I developed a soft spot. I always tip a server like $10 for good service even if all we spend is twenty bucks. Or if I'm eating alone, sometimes I'll still put down $5 or $7.
Anyway, tell her to buck up. She has random internet people sending her happy thoughtwaves. Actually, probably don't tell her that. She might be creeped out to know that random internet people even know she exists.

While I didn't work in food stuff, my time at the full service copy store makes me generally inclined to not side with customer whenever an issue rises about service. That's not because service is always great, but because customers who get complainy generally tend to be dicks, at fault, or expecting something more than the establishment provides.

I blame America.
It has spoiled people to the point where they will whine about anything, and will try to get anything for free. I am having an issue with a customer right now who is a real bitch.

i hate customers like that. not that i've ever worked as a waitress. But yeah...if the waiter/waitress is doing a good job, then i don't say anything. but if they're bad, i don't take it out on them, i go ask for the manager!

You can tell a lot about a person from the way they order their food.

I was a waiter for many years, and it's definitely a pain in the ass. I didn't get many complaints, but people that acted like assholes got shitty service. If you're nice to me, I'll be all over whatever you need. But if you are an ass, have fun waiting for your food. The bad tip is secondary to the pleasure I get in making them wait.

apparently you've never tried telling drunken rednecks why their claim was denied for a living....
Anyway, I'm a huge tipper simply because I worked for tips for a few years back in high school and I feel like they deserve it. Also, I'm with idol I'd prefer to avoid messing with people who are just looking for an excuse to drop my food on the floor a few times before sending it out to me... or worse.
