Title: RetroAhoy game mini-documentaries
Post by: idolminds on Thursday, May 19, 2016, 08:54:45 PM
I became aware of these recently and they are really fantastic to watch. They give a great overview of the history of a game and its future influence. The Doom and Quake episodes are about an hour each, with other games having shorter videos.

Channel with all the videos (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE1jXbVAGJQEORz9nZqb5bQ)

Wolfenstein 3D (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSb87DC-PtA)
Doom (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A4-SVUHQYI)
Quake (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OipJYWhMi3k)
Galaxian (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEaqhhjqxLA)
Lemmings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbxyqeIylHE)

There is also A Brief History of Graphics (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyjyWUrHsFc) which is also really good. A real nice YouTube channel in general. Check it out.

Damn you!  Half my morning got sucked away by Doom and Quake.

Edit:  Great stuff.  I've now watched all those you linked, plus a couple of others.  I watched A Brief History of Graphics before.  I think there's a thread on it somewhere.
